The general stated the object of the Wry astor of St. Mathew's charch. je2)-8t" conference to be @ fusion of all elements op- Posed to President Grant. Senator Trambull, while not fully endorsing the Cincinnati con- vent'on, was of the opinion that the liberal republicans had gone so far that retreat was imposible, bat that if a man of acknowledged ability could be placed in the field he (Trum- ball) would support him, but under the existing State of affairs he saw no option but to support Greeley. A night session was held, the proceed. ings of which are represented as being very stormy, vehement speeches being made against Greeley. A majority of the delegates expressed their conviction that Greeley was the best man that could be brought to bear against President Grant, and even Senator Schurz admitted that be himself would have to support Horace Greo- icy trom necessity. The conference seems to bave adjourned without making any nomina- tion, @ course urged by the New York Journal of Commerce and other papers favorable to the reform movement. The Greeley men, it is un- Gerstood, made a strong effort to “capture” the conference bodily, but did not quite succeed. The Philadelphia Press authoritatively an- nounces that General Grant will not interfere in the local politics of Pennsylvania. The President is sensible in this, and we may add that we think those who are undertaking to crack the plantation whip at Colonel Forney for his opposition to @ portion of the republican state ticket make @ mistake. Mr. Forney isa hard man to drive, and Mr. Buchanan's failure on that ‘ine ought to afford an instructive ex- ample to those who are experimenting in that Cirection now. We do not see how the state ticket can well be changed, as he urges, at this late day; and we do not altogether share his opinion of General Hartranft, but as an out- spoken journalist he has an undoubted right to express his views. Neither can we see why his opposition to individual members of the state ticket should imperil republican success. Those who do not like Hartranft ean vote for the rest of the state ticket, and for members of Congress end the Legislature. The tide of a pre-presi- dential election will very likely float the whole ticket, however, despite the disaffection to Hart- EMORTAL hol § oh peaks cow ~ ‘Grand’ ar amr Hi fal mantel? ail, » 22d instant. Itis because i) at is au exhausting element, and they sre not in a condition to bear the new drain ‘upon their languid systems, which they think must necessarily commence with the warm weather. But cannot this evil be obviated? Most indubitably it can. What these weaklings need—in fact, what nine-tenths of us need at this season—is an acces- sion of physical vigor, and this desideratum can be secured, with absolute certainty, by a course of the migbticst, yet mildest, of all vegetable tonics, Hos- tetter 's Stcmach Bitters. To persons who use the celebrated invig- orant and corrective regularly in hot weather, the exhaustion which excessive heat is apt to produce under other circumstances is unknown. They are not troubled with nausea, their appetites are good, their digestion excellent, and their habit of body all that can be desired. This for twenty years hasbeen the uniform testimony of all who have taken the Bitters as s summer tonic and alterative. Its effi- cacy is due to the care and scrupulous fidelity to the teachings of experimental science, with which ite medicical ingredients have been culled from the vegetatle kingdom, the admirable proportions in which they are combined and the unequalled purity of ite stimulative basis.
