Being con- vinced of these facts,they stood up for the right, some of them knowingly incurring thereby the disapproval of many of their constituents,in the hope that time will serve to show that the advocates of the bill were not the friends of the Poor man, as so vehemently claimed by them. ‘They were well organized, and the pressure upon the members was very great, the lobby being filled for the last three days with a large number of persons who, without giving the subs ject proper consideration, pressed the of the bill with a zeal worthy of a better cause. The passage of the bill would have carried the city back to the old state of affairs when the bonds of the city were hawked abeut the streets at 50 cents on the dollar, and the poor laboring man would have been paid in scrip instead of cash, reducing his wages to 75 cents per diem. It turns out in the Cincinnati case of the mur- derous attack of an infuriated lover upon a preacher—the Rey. J. J. Thompson—that the latter was caught in improper relations with the mistress of the assailant, a Mrs. Sarah Shingle- decker. The woman denies that the preacher kissed her, but says that if he had “she should not have objected in the least, and would have thought no harm of it,” he being a minister of the Gospel. Thompson was formerly a preacher im Cincinnati, but like another rather notorions individual, the Rev.
