A meeting of the union was held at Union League Hall last night, Mr. John T. Hoge president aad Mr, L. Y. Mitchet! secretary. Mr. moved that a committee he appointed to draft resotations in answer to the attack on the association by the Ohio state sociation; carried, and essts. Penw inted. PeThe secretary read n document which bad been handed him, addressed «To all whom it concern,” and signed E. O. Ford dent and Newton Ferree secre! in which the pro- ceedings of the meeting of the state tion on the 2ist are recited. The committee retired, and subsequent! sented two reports. Mr. Taylor prese: of the majority—a series of resolntions which with the preamble set forth that ‘the Ohio asso- ciation, especially @ social organization, with a membership embracing citézens of various states and the District of Columbia, has iy im- d upon the republican party of the state of Bine by an inczousable exaggeration of its members, and by a glaring misrepresentation Of its inkuence and Character at the capital, &c., and that the Ohio voters’ republican union 3 republican political organiza- tion of Ohio republican: within the District of the recent attack upon our republican brothers, Capt. 8.8 Blackford and Wm. A. Hunt, esq., through the newspapers was simply the unprovoked and disgraccful attack of the conservative wire-puliers of the Ohio association upon the personal character ‘and ives of two worthy and patriotic soldie: who nobly bore their portion in the recent struggle for natienal life, and who are now la- boring faithrully for the continued ascendancy blican party, and the renomination it Grant.” ywith submitted a minority report, reciting the cireumstances which led to the or- ganization of the voters’ union. Major Medford moved to adopt the majority report. Major Frazier said that while the subject merited the language used in the majority re- , When they went before the public they ld do so in @ dignified, courteous manner. Mr. Pennywith said if the milder report was adopted the public would think better of the union. Mr. Hunt said he had ascertained that no re- porter was present at the mecting of the state association, and he charged that the report was gotten oP. by Horace Greeley Otis, the report showing his éar marks. This report came direct from members of the association, and the union must take it asa report of that meeting. It was true that the majority report of the committee contained adjectives, but they were merited, and had he had the drawing up of that report he woald have used some severe adjectives, He alluded to Judge Bartley, a democrat, bein, prominent in the state association, and ch: ‘ge! that one-half of the members of the association Were non-voters. He urged that it was the duty of the un.on to defend itself and members, and not do it in mild language either. Mr. T. C. Taylor said that while the mtnority report was a statement of fact it was too mild. ‘The association had set itself up asa ruling er, thereby giving men who had not been in state of Obio for ten years a power and in- flrence they should not have. Some of the members of the association never had voted the republican ticket; and it was most remarkable that Judge Bartley should attempt to criticise the actions of tae Union—a man who never pretended to be a republican, and now sup- ported the President because Sherman was con- Unued general of the army. After some further debate the majority re- port was adopted, with butone dissenting voice. Mr. Medford offered a resolution instructing the secretary to return to the signers the com- munication addressed to Louis Y. Mitchell, Union League Hall, and delivered on the 23th ultimo, and signed E. C. Ford, president. and Newton Ferree, secretary. The mecting adjourned. ee, Radical Republican Club. ALLEN COFFIN IN HIS FAVORITE ROLE OF A DISORGANIZER. The radical republican clab held a meoting at Union League hall last night. The attend- ance was sma}l; not over ten persons being pres- ent. In the absence of the president, Mr. F. A. Boswell, Mr. Charles Champion, ‘first vice president, occupied the chair. The sub-commit- tee of the executive committee reported in fayor of amending the constitution, so that hereafter five black bails, instead of one, shall be Tequired to reject an applicant. ‘The report was adopted. Mr. Sidney McFarland was appointed a com- mittee of one to secure quarters for the club in Philadelphia during the session of the republi« can convention. Just as the club was about to adjourn, Allen Coftin offered a resolution declaring ear nest! favor of the election of all District officers. Mr. McFarland opposed the resolution as untimely, said a full meeting should consider it. Mr. had no principles, and y declared their principles the bs Marcellus West, while believing in the Tesolution, thonght its consideration should be ‘stponed. Mr. McFarland moved that it be aid on the table. Captain Wiliam Slater bad undersicod that the club was a social, and not a political, club. He thought no_politicat iesnes sbould be raised. Mr. Coftin anid if it was not a political club he bad no further use tor it. The Maction to lie on the table was lost. Mr. West moved its reference to the executive commit but after a long discussion, withdrew bis im and, atter more debate, Mr. Coffin’ tion was adopted by a vote of 3 to 2. fusing to vote. Messrs, Slater and McFarland voted in the negative. Mr. McFarland charged that the reeviution was carried by the votes o: persons not members of the club, who had crowded into the hall, and gave notice that at the next meeting lke would nove to have the 3 ion rescinded. He also intimate th the adoption of the resolution would be th. Diow to the club.
