Night before last, between 11 and 12 o'clock A “SOLITARY HORSEMAN” was seen on the Island by some colored people, with a body thrown across the horse in front of him, and some colored persons who saw bim imagined, from the limberness of the corpse, that it was some poor feliow, with his mouth effectually sealed with a sticking plaster, on his of the Legislative Assembly, and an | reports | oys- | way to the dissecting room, there to be hacked into mince meat, or to be boxed for export to ; *eme other city. Those who indulge this singular superstition relative to “emight doctors," imagine that young and obese subjects are preferred on account of the oil which they yield, and that HUNP-RACKS are also ‘ially desirable, on account of their | peculiar physical conformation, which renders their dissection of particular interest to medical students. Indeed, it is reported that as high as $150 each for first-class hump-backed subjects is offered by the “night doctors.” We know not how this strange hallucination originated, but imagine it must have come down by tradition trom “the good old times” before the war.
