James B. Donelan, who was for a number of years the beloved pastor of St. Mat- thew’s (Catholic) Church, at the corner of 15th and H streets, from which he was transferred about the vear 1853 to Burlington, Iowa. Mr. Donelan died there intestate january last, and on that being discovered, his sister, and next heir, Mrs. Drury, wife of Mr. John H. Drury, the portrait and landscape painter, of Chicago, determined to car into effcet his often-ex- ressed intention of leaving to Georgetown Col- Fege all the property of which he might die d. With this object in view, Mr. and Firs. Drary exsived heve stew weeks since, and at once proceeded to take the necessary steps for transferring the property. The necessary legal documents were nearly ready for execution when the Chicago fire occurred, and came to Mrs. Drury that most of what she and her husband owned in the world, and what was bly the accumulation of years of artist toil, ad been swallowed up in the general conflagra- tion. This great blow did not cause hertoflinch from her purpose or to falter in what she deemed a sacred duty; and the property of her deceased brother, amounting to about $12,000 in govern- ment securities, and real estate situated in this city, was duly transferred to the college as he inten L. .
