While on his way to the station-bouse, a brother of the prisoner, named Thomas Boucher, with @ man named Andrew Curtin, made an assault on the officer, aud one of them struck him on the head with a brick. STRIKE AT TH8 CoaL Wuarves.— This morning, at7 o'clock, the men employed at the various coal wharves here struck fur higher wages—about 400 of them. Their wages have hitherto been 9 cents each hand to unload a boat, and, unloading from four to five boats a day, their pay averages from $2 to $2.50 a day. ‘They claim that frequently they are compelled to wait for boats, and, therefore, averaga only 50 cents a day, and they now strike for $2aday, or 66%, cents boat, making $2 for every threc boats. © companies cannot well employ them by the day, as very frequently the men are idle along ime.
