The whole rcope of Lakes Erie and Ontario, drained by the system of roads, concentrating on Elmira, can be brought to Washington by 21 milesshorter than through the city of Baltimore. The grades on the lines through Frederick will not exceed 53 feet to the mile, while on the other they reach 84 feet.
