THe ELECTION TO-DAY CHIP MIN CLIRGELY 4HEaAD! As we go to press with our first edition, at two p. m., the returns from the different polling precincts show Chipman to be largely ahead. | Snould he retain the same supremacy throagh- the day, his majogity cannot fall short of 000. | ‘The democrats ge the hope that the bulk | Of the republican vote is in, and that they will | beable to improve their voting for the rest of | the day, but it is evident that the weight of the | entire vote haz already been cast, and that it ‘will not be poseible tor the democrats to over- come the heavy majority against them. ‘The number of polling places is so large that there fs very little delay in voting, and at many of the precincts there has been little voting going on since noon. We have no doubt that in our next edition we shall be able to give suf- ficient data to establish the triamphant election of Gen. Chipman and the republican ticket by & large majority.
