Mr. EprtoR :—The proposition to increase the fire department meets with little favor among our citizens, they believing that the present force is large enough, and that an in- crease would unnecestarily add to eet heavy expenses of the city. While the firemen, policenen and teachers have to wait for months for their pay, it is a to increase [reed where it isnot absolutely necessary. it we do want is the laying of more water and Pi more fire plugs, and more attention to the fire- alarm boxes, to see that they are in order, and more keys in the neighborhood of the boxes, that there may be no difficulty in turning in thealarm. Neglect in this particular has caused serious trouble and loss, to the knowledge of the writer. Pusiic Goon.
