Vhere still remains to be sold $1,500 to meet the cost of steam pump, and what further amount may be required in ‘regard to the outlay on P street bridge. A large amount of the obliga- tious to Farmers’ & Mechanics’ Bank bas been discharged, but there still remains due to it, on notes of the corporation, £5,000 on account of Washington street improvement; ‘$1.00 on account of 5th and 6th streets improve- ment; and $6,000 on account of abutments to West strect bridge—altogether $12,000. ‘The interest to the Ist of October last on notes given by the late Eleanor K. Lang for #5, , in payment of Town House, amounts to $2,310, of which interest €1,070 has been paid, leaving $1,240 due at Ist October last. Hence it follows, at that date, that the sale of the Town House to the Corporation for $4,900 will, after paying the interest, reduce the principal to $3,660, le. <1,540 to be recovered in some other mode. fund made special for the erectiot Hall stands ‘as follows: Receipts, $: vested in Corporation stock, $5. cash on hand to be invested, $5.05. ries paid to the officers of the Steam Fire De- partment from Ist January, | amount to $2,906 67; pai penses, including new hose, : 54,559.58, The rents received in 1 Including fish wharf, amount to +1,15425, being $1s 74: leaving tion of the on ’ expenditures, $3,00 cash on hand applicable to the recac market bourse $906.65. account of expenditures, band December tand, rece! ditures. $! ber 51, 2 Z twaintenance in 1570, engineer, all paid vuc ui the general iand, bi en $4,239.15; and the cost of pun ing together, <1, conclusion: “Throuzhout all the year all proper demands lave becn promptly met, and of the money borrewed to meet ©: appro- priations, a large amount l says, in id, and the remainder will be liquidated a3 soon as practicable; and it is very gratifying to he able to state that there is not a solitary item of float ing debt of the corporation in the hands of people.” CaneLess HANDLING OF FIREARMS. nocu op Saturday last, five of our Georgetown lads, named Brooke Ogle. Frank rrett, Ir riene Harmon, Kensar Krause and William "Donoho, were going ashort distance in the country, and when near Mr. Cox's farm a row tovk piace, which eaded by one uf them, Brooke Ugie, drawing a pistol an reit, the shot passing into Garrett's back jnst under the lett shoulder, where it is yet. dently frightened at the occurrence, the pa: Yy attempted to assist Garrett to his house on Frederick, between Prospect and Ist streets, but they were relieved of their duty by Dr. Wil- liams, who happened to be passing at the time, | and took the boy home in his carriage and at- tended tohis wound. Ogie and one of the party uamed Vonobo were afterward arrested and taken to the station-house, where they were held, the first charged with assault and battery with intent to kill, and the second as a witness. Ogle denies positively that the shooting was in- tentional, and says that they were spony es @ target, and Garrett bappened to get be- tween him and the mark just ax he tired. It appears from bowever, that the shooting was tal; as Ogle at the time was flourishing the pis tol around bis head when it was accidentally diecharged. It's a strange coincidence, too, that just fifteen years ago the father of young Ogle shot and killed a boy named Webi, who, with others was playing in front of his house. and in their gambols a stone struck Ogle house, wheréupon he rushed out (suffering from mania-a-potu at the time) and with a shot gun tired down the street, killing young Webb in- stantly. He was wied and sent to the peniten- ary, and was subsequently pardoned out. Firr.—The alarm ot atSo'clock last night was caused by a fire in a frame building on Gay street, between cone ‘sand High streets. The building was occupied by a@ colored woman named Mary Bell, and the properly belonged the Kiley estate. The damage was about 0. The steamer Henry Addison was promptly at the place and did good service in checking the flames from spreading tu the adjoining frame buildings. Mrs. Gell was at church at the time of the fre, which is supposed to have caught trom a stove im the room occupied by her. ‘THE RIVER UANKS are commencing already to be fringed with ice and if the present weather continues the surface will be frozen over to- morrow. ProrERTY Sags.—Mr. John H. Parrott sold this morning by auction, in tront or the jayor’s office, the property known as Hunter’s ship yard, to Mr. James Green for £7,750, anda lot of ground on the west side ot Fairfax street, between Wilkes and Gibbon, with two framed tenements thereon, to Mr. J.
