Mr. Baker, who opened the meeting by feading an appropriate selection of Scripture. This meeting was closed at 1 o'clock, and half an hour later the beil sounded for preaching services at the stand. when ltov. A. E. Gibson, DD. of the Foundry Chuce occupied the stand for over an hour, and deliv. ered one of the finest sermons ever heard on a camp ground, from the text, «I would baptize you with water unto repentance; but he that cometh after me tx mightier than I. whose shoes J am not worthy to loose; i baptize with the Holy Ghost and with fr Matthew, iii, lith verse. It was zegretted by many that ‘Dr. Dashiel was not present, as had been expected he being detammed by ® speil of intermitten fever, whieh fact was not known by Dr. McCau- ley until last eve but bis piace was very acceptably filled by Dr. Gibson. Un the close of the sermon some little time was spent in singing and prayer, and frequently were shouts of joy heard in the congregation. According to custom, for ten minutes after the close of the services did the tent-holders and families drop the fronts of their teuts aud engage in silent Prayer. The large number of those on the round were accommodated with meals at the Gocraes tents and by their friends on the ground, or those who had brought their meals with them formed little compantes in the wouds and partook of them in pie-nic style.
