The bulk staken by gentlemen like H. D. Cooke and A. K. Shepherd, of this city, and Carlos Pierce, of Boston. The utmost harmony and fteel- ing prevailed, and our citizens may look with confidence for the early and successful com. pletion of the enterprise. After the books were closed a meeting of the corporators was held, and Mr. Hei D. Doeke, in a neat and ml the Washington priate address, on behalf of stockholders, congratulated those present upon the result. "He expressed great satisfaction that the capitalis*s of New England had given such proof of their interest in the national capi- tal. ir. The Nationals did not make a run till the fourth inning, when Studiey broke the and four runs marked in the ay The fact is the Nationals out-played the Olym all around, and it was universally remarked that if the National nine had the same prac- tice this season that the Olympics have bad, their nine would be har to beat anywhere. During the pro- gress of the festivities a terrible accident ha pened to the beneficiary. About 7 o'clock Mr. Loshe appeared on the tight-rope, and started for the middle of it, where he was to zo sbrough with some gymnastic feats, e reached the point at which he was ta have halt- ed, from some cause he ‘ost his balance and fell to the ground, a of 30 feet, and was severely injured. He was immediately taken {0 the hotel of Mr. Abner, and two physicians having been summoned from the Freedmen’s Hospital, they found that three of his ribs had been broken, a'so the bones of one arm and @ wrist. Itts also supposed that he was Injured internally. Mr. Emery is the true republican candidate of the party, and all who do not support him are boiters, and would be conridered as such. It had been said that Mr. EI bal e. He denied that too, and would convince them all of the truth of what he asserted. As to himself, he had acted siraight- forward, and no man could charge that he had not stood up for the rights of the colored people. It is currently rumored by these leeches that if Mr. Emery is elected, labor on the corporation work will cease. He would tell them in all candor that if Bowen should by any possibility be elected the work would necessi- rily cease at once, as there was no money to carry it on with.’ What money there is col- lected now to the contractors, and not to the laborers, as it should. This City Hall ring is mostly made up of old dyed-in-the-wool democrats, who are endeav- oiling to prejudice colored men against Mr. Em- ery andthe whites by handbilis, posters, &c. This should be frowned down by all good citi- zens, as it would in the end lead to direiul re- sults. Itis a great evil to create antagonisms between the two races. The Lobby used by the ring that Mr. Emery will cut off the work, is a humbug.
