Monrz Purcuases oy Bonps.—The books of the office ot the Comptroller of the Curreacy show that the amount of 10-4) bonds exchanged for 5-903 under the recent decision of the Secre- tary of the Treasury bas reached over $2,000,000. ‘The Secretary of the Treasury has instracted the assistant treasurer at New York to pur- chase $2,000,000 of 5-20 bonds &@ week during the month of August, the first purchase to be made on Wednesday; the 4th mst. These purchases are in addition to the purchase for the sinking fand of $1,000,009 of bonds on alternate weeks. THE STEAMBE TALLATOOSA arrived here Saturday afternoon from New York and Long Branch via Annapolis and Norfolk. She left Annapolis on Friday night, and just prior to her departure from t! child of Comman der Chandler, of the Tallapoosa, was christ- ened “Porter Chandler,” Vice Admiral Porter and lady acting respectively as godfather and godmother. The Tallapoosa will leave here on the 9th instant to convey Vice Admisal Porter and some other prominent officers to various points along the coast. THe REVENUE TROUBLES IN GEORGIA.—Mr Edwerd Belcher, the Assessor o1 the third Georgia district, having recommended a suc- cessor to William E. Baygood, (who it wiil be membered was appointed to the position of Assessor of the thirteenth division of ‘that district, aiid declined on account of the threats of the Kukinx,) the Commissioner ot Tnternal Revenue bas decided to act upon the suggestion of Supervieor Ktzyz1n0wski, and not accept the declination of Mr. Haygood. Mr, H. has been duly notified that he will be pro- tected from all danger by the United States ‘troops, and General Terry, commanding the ‘third military district, is ready to imcresse the force in Wilkes and Taliaferre counties, should \the necessity exist. The Carlists under Saveriegas are in the mountains near Toledo, The national troops are in close pur- svit.
