The colored people are voting a umit for the Wells Radical ucket. The city will go Conservative, but the county ‘Will overbalance the Conservative majority in the city. The election of McKenzie (Uoaser- vative) for Congress from this District over Wairtlesey is conceded. There will bea large majority in this city for the adoption of the constitution minus the disfranchisement and test oath clauses. A colored man, said to be a citizen of Wash- mgton, was arrested here to-day and sent to jail on charge of hi voted twice. STOLEN FROM THE TREASUhY DEPARTMENT. ATLANTA, July 5. —Several days since detect- ive Murpby arrested two women who bad ia their possession a large amowat of U.S. cur- rency stolen from the Treasury at Wasnington in September last. Signatures were forged to the Treasury notes, and a large amount was put in circulation in Augasta, Ga. These women implicate H. M. Turner, the recentiy Appointed negro postmaster at Macon. Tarner was arrested yesterday by the United States Marshal and bronght to Atlanta. An investi- gation is now going on, but efforts ure b-ing made to keep it secret. Yerterday was generally observed through- out the District as a holiday. The Government department buildings and the manicipal offices ‘were closed, as were the banks and other places of business; public and private work was sus- pended, with but few exceptions; the national fisg was dispiayed from prominent buildings, And the city wore subdued holiday look, as if the influence of the Sabbath had extended over both days. There was no great demonstration in this city, or any formal cele- bration, but several associations observed the day by processioi hes, &c., and han- dreds of families availed themselves of the numerous pic-nics ress to enjoy the country air, or the cooling breezes of the Potomac.
