Sacoxp | District.— Yesterday morning Primaries No. “ and 1), the first a male schoo! in charge of Miss Jenny L. Adams and the lat tera female school im charge of Miss Sallie Dalton, were examined by M McLellan and Mason of the Trustees, in tne lecture room of the German Evangelical Church on Gib street. These schools were examined as one in the studies taught in that grade and the ans- wers were given promptly and correctly, .aere being considerable emulation apparently be- tween the schools. The order was good. The singing of the pupils was much complimented Each school numbers 60 pupils, all of whom were present, and quite a number will be transferred this year. The school room was handsomely decorated, the motto “Panctaality and order™ being conspicuous, while in eaca window a handsome flower basket was hung. The teacher's desks were loaded with boquets and each of the 120 pupils bad a beautital boquet. The interest taken im these schools ‘Was evinced by the large number of visitors present, including many of tae pareats, who crowded every available portion of the room Among others present were Mr. Woodward of the trustees, Mr. W. J. Rhees formerly of the —— Rev. G. M. Condron and Colone: Waller. Primary No 6, in the Miller School Building, Hi street. was examined yes’erday afteraoon by Mr. McLellan, in the pzesence of quite a num- ber of teachers, parents, and friends. ‘This School is composed of 41 girls, (all of whom were present,) who conducted themselves with credit, aod im their various studies did well, especialiy im mental arithmetic. The teacher, Miss E. L. Wilson, wiil transfer ten or twelve of her first com at the end of this year. Primary No. 5. composed of 40 little boys, in charge of Miss Haislup, (now in her first year As @ teacher.) was examined by Mr. Woodward at one o'clock, in the basement of the Assem- bly’s Church, (5th and I streets.) There were & Dumber of the parents of the pupils present. who seemed satisfied at the progress made by the youngsters, who seemed to be quite thor- ougbly drilled in the primary study H. will transfer eight or ten of Ber pupils to the Secondry schools at the close of ihe school year. Some of those present expressed surprise wat a il could be conducted in a Toom so unfit, and it was sugggested by some that many of the boquet< displayed on the detks could have been made more usetul by placing them im the rat holes. Mr. Woodward expressed his pleasure at the successful result of the first year’s labor of the teacuer, and con- lated the pupiis on their general ap- ce. y At school, Primary No. 7, was choo! room, ta Washingtoa Market puilding, corner I and 5th streets, where there were a number of vi cluding several teachers. s school is com~ posed of small boys, 45 iv number, every one of whom were present. Mr. Woodward con- | ducted this examination. The pupils were no- ticeably good as to abbreviations, and the read- ing Was very feir. The spelling was good and the order generally good. The singing by the pupils was enjoyed by all, and a dialogue by two of the boys was very weil spoken. Mr. Woodward aud Mr. McLellan expressed the opinion of themselves, and also of the visitors, when they said the pupils had done well. Mrs. R. will transfer probably 20 pupils if room can be for them in the Secondaries. The noise made by a crowd of boys outside the building rendered it very difficult to hear the answers of the pupils st times, and a young man (!) engaged in catebing fhe: and placing therm in @ cage dievw off the attention of the vis- itors. The room in which the school ts held, located at the junction of three streets, is mot at all suitable for the purposes of a Primary school; but a class in geometry would make rapid progress in it, for every angie and shape kr own is described by aud on the wails.
