All the move- ments towards the fight were made with such was not koown except to those immediately interested until late on Wednes- day, when the police were put on the alert. To prevent them from going by any of the trains or stenmboats guards were placed at the depots and sieamboat landings, but they had made oiber arrangements altogether. The fight was jor two hundred dollars a side, and vebicles ‘were procured by which they left the city long before daylight yesterday moruing. They went to 8 point on the Frederick turnpike some nine or ten miles from the city, where they bega aud ended the conilict without any oificial terrupiion. On the sixteenth round, 98 soon as they met, Montgomery let in his right on the nose of Hicks, mashing it fat to his face; Hicks gor in one on Montgomery's ribs, which was the most effective blow he made, but was soon knocked down. When time was called for the seventeenth round the seconds of Hicke threw up the sponge, as it was evident he was no match for Montgomery, though he expressed a desire to continnethe fight.
