The consequenc are that, while the jobbers and their out-of-town customers purchase more freely, the manutacturers’ agents and commission houses are willing to sell at the going rates, for the season is too far advanced for them to safely hold on for higher prices. Hard-pan has bean touched and a very healthy feeling prevails among all classes. In brown sheetings and shirtings there is more activity then prevailed the week previ- ous, and prices are about half a cent a yard better om the leading makes. The business is satisfactory to the manufacturers, In foreign goods there business doing than i the importers, Re: A more restricted together agreeable to ly choice goods for the city trade, such as silks and merinos, command fuil prices aud sell readily; but the importations of ordinary dress goods have beea so extensive that, in order to effect sales to any considerable extent, a decline of prices bus to be submit -d to. ‘The auction rooms are kept well sup pli dy and many of the importers who have left their goods in bonded warehouse nearly a year are how compelled to take them out to save the additional ten per cent, which would be im- posed at the end of thai time, Tne goods that ure thus withdrawn cannot be kept on hand; and so they are forced into the auctioa room, and help to bring down prices, The Jate {all of full live per cent. in gola has considerably deranged the prices of foreign goods.—Neiw York Independent.
