Use bundred and fity-nine votes are all | that is necessary for election, and in the above bles there are 16) electoral votes, without counting one of the Southern States engaged in the rebellion. In the hist of States given, every one save three. in whieh a State election has been beld im the last eighteen months, has gone immocratic. in all,the local elections have , exhibited grea: Democratic gains, sufficient to insure the State tor the Democracy this fall. | We bave pot counted Illinois im the list, but the delegates to the Convention declared there as no doubt but Pendleton would carry that Sta'e. Ifit would be certain for Pendieton, | then it can be safely counted for Seymour and | { Bisir. é addition to this, the States of Ala. | = Georgia, and Mississippi are certain to | & Democratic majority with any fair | Enance of voting ‘This will give 24 more elec- | toral votes and swell the Democratic column to | ya But the 1 publicans are laboring to ex- | cinde tbe votes of the States of Virginia, Texas, | sna Mississippi. by legislation in Gongress. If the ¢lectoral votes of those States are mot coupted, then there will be in the Electoral | 6294 votes, and 145 will be all that will be ‘peceseary to elect. The Democracy can the® lore Obio, and still secure a majority of | the Electoral College, without counting any trom the South, or, by carrying Philo, they can | lese Blissouri, Wisconsin, and Kansas, and lll elect their ticket without receiving a vote , tro the South. There is, therefore, every | Treason for encouragement to the Democracy, H and the election of Seymour and Biair may be put down as a certainty.” | The New York Trivune, a paper priding it- | self on its political figuring, undertakes to show up the fallacy of the World's calcala- tions im off-hand style. The Tribune thinks ‘Vermont might as weil be claimed for the Dem- ecrats as Obio, the latter State having gone | heavily Republican at every Presidential and every Governor's election since there wi Kepublican party, and which, even last F: elected her Repubhican Governor by 2,{63 ma- jority. Missouri gave Lincoln 71,676 votes to | 16 for McClellan, and ather last election (0-66) gave 62,187 Republican to 40,963 Demo- | cratic. Missouri may not give Grant quite so | large & majority as Massachusetts will; but she c9n hardly fail to give him 20,000. Kansas never yet failed to go largely Re- publican, and at her last Governor's election | 5%) thus proclaimed her conviction -—Craw- tord, Republican, 19,370; McDowell, Democrat, 8.151, Republ majority, 11,219. She will | this tall poll 56,900 votes, whereof Grant and Colfax will have more than 10,000 majority. | Wisconsin never yet gave an anti-Repab- | ty since the Republican party was formed. Last fall she re-elected her Republi- ean Goyernor (Fairchild) by 4,764 majority, sad went Republican om every tcket; this spring she chose Republican judges on a light ‘vote by some 6,000 majority. The highest vote sbe ever cast was in 1360, when Lincoln had ‘2 majority in aggregate of 152,0is. Ths Tribune believes she will this fall poll 20,000 Yous, and that Grant and Colfax will baye Over 2v,00v majority. The Jrilune same up its convictions to the effect that the only States merally certain to vote for Seymour and Blair are Kentucky, Maryisad and Delaware. The New York Sun, while holding that Grant and Colfax will be elected, believes that the Democracy will carry New York «in spite ot. everything,” and attributes the bad pros- peets of the Republicans in the State to the legislation of that party upon the excise laws, and the denial of Sunday lager to the Germans. ‘The Sum holds that the Democracy will have a» the eight counties alone, at that end of the State, comprising the Democratic stronghold, more than 30,000 majority, which it will be ¢: ficult to overcome in the State at large. The Sumadda: “These ate the aspects of the canvass as they Sppesr to-day. New causes may come im to cbange them, however.
