The particulars given by us yesterday con- ‘Toing the movement for the formation of a vew party by those disaffected with the nomi- nation of Seymour and Blair, attracted mo little attention, and the matter was the subject of general discussien last night. Many of the Democratic politicians are disposed to treat the movement shghungly sas tie effervescence of s few sore-head partizans. the attempt will not enlist a baker's dozen of the Democracy, oF those disposed to act with the Democracy, and that it will not be heard of ana fortnight. Weare ioclined to think, after caretul inquiry, and talting into consideration | the cbaracter of the men engaged in this bolt from the New York nominations and platform, Bat it will not do for the Democracy to under- e its importance. The Democratic managers aay tind it to their advantage to Wiuk at the formation of a third party, in order to prevent the disaffected trom going over to Grant and | iax, swelling ‘he rauks of their adversaries dangerous sort. We find the following in our cotemporaries, sddPsual and confirmatory of what we wrote yesterday. >a Tegard to the formation of the ew party. “Data” writes to the Baltimore Sun of to-day, as follows. ‘There isa movement in progress. backed some of the most substantial men in <aliom whicb culmiated im the momination Gen. Grant, and who oppose on the other candicates ‘and principles of the New York Convention, snd especially the priaciples of Mr. Blasr’s letter, to piace a third candidate in the flek for President. The movement was begun at New York on Friday last, and 1s be- | ing developed throughout the country, with | expressions of the warmest concurrence trom | some of the most prominent persons in both parties, but particuiarly irom the Conserva- tive men of the country, the workiugmen, and & large body of the soldiers and sailors. It is proposed, if the arrangements can be compl. ted, to publish a list of the National Executive Committee shortly, and to hold a convention naidates, either in Pict-bar; ptember. Itis beli-ved bere however, that this move- Cincinnati, in by the Democ! ment will amot ie momipees Will have ceased. To this the trends of the new party respond that they will not desis From the Chronicie of this morning we take + following in the sare connection: ~-A caucus of Democrats dissatisfied with the ommations of the New York Con vention was ast might held at one of the leading hoteis in this He City, to determine upon a course of action, with a view to putting in the field another tial ticket. There were preseat some ¥-five or thirty gentlemen trom various parts of the country, imcluding members of Congress, delegates to the late convention, aud vx-ollicers of the army. Politically, those pres- ent might | be divided into three classes, as fol- lows ds of the administration, conser ¢n- uve soldiers and sailors, and representa- tuves of the workingmen’s organizations. De- rivirg our mformatior indirectly, and not baving had a reporter present, we are, of course, unable to give the proceeding: in detail, but we learn that it was resolved to take steps for calling togetber three conventions, one for each of the three political classes above mentioned, and that Gen. W. 5. Rosecrans. of Cahfornia, and S F. Cary, of ‘Obio, were agreed upon unanimously as the “third party” ticket. Wedo not know whether either of upon the acceptance, or whether they are to be perforce comsigtied to that class of peuple who are said to +bave greatness thrust upon them.’ Nor can we predict whether the pro- posed conventions, should they ever be held, will accept the cut-and-dried ticket prepared for them. So far as the workingmen are con- cerned, we apprehend they know their own in- terests well enough to support the Grant and Colfax ticket, and help to swell the majority ef that party which has always been identifie! with the maiu-enance of the mghis and the as- sertion of the dignity of labor Tue Hot Wuatuex—The weather reports from all parts ef the country indicate univer- sal and unusually hot weather. In some pisces the thermometer indicated over one bundred im the shade yesterday, and several deaths from sunstroke sre reported. In this city im some of the most shady places the ther- Mometer indicated $8 degrees yesterday afier- noon. In Baltimore the day was pronounced «the warmest of the season.” The thermome- ter Was reported at 13 degrees. There were several cases of sunstroke, but mone fatal. As we bave already stated there were seven fatal | cases Of sunstroke at Buffalo, N. ¥.,on Satar- day and Senday. In Philadelphia yesterday the beat was excessive. In some localities the mercury ranged 99% degrees in the shade. One fatal case of suustroke. The thermometer at midnight stood “©. The weather continugs ex- tremely hot in Albany, the mercury yesterday afternoon 97 to 101 degrees in the shade. Nu- merous cases of sunstroke are reported, sev- erol fatal. The weather yesterday in Hartford was the hottest in fourteen years. The ther- | mometer was at 100. In Cincinnati the weath- er isexcessively hot. There were 353 deaths in Philadelphia last week, an increase of 101 com- pared with the week preceding. Eleven of the Geaths were from sunstroke. The number of deaths in New York city during the past week was 614, or S9 more than the corresponding week of last year, and 201 more tman last week. ‘The large increase is caused by cholera infan- tum, sum stroke during the very hot days and other casualties. Tae WorktsG Prorte—The eight-hour law, which is creating the difficulty in the mining region, reads as follows: “On and after the firet of July, 168, eight hours of labor, be- tween the rising and setting of the suo, shall be deemed and held to be a legal day's work, | tp all cases of labor and service by the day, | 2 where there is no cont-act or agreement to the contrary. 2. Governor Geary declines to call an extra session of the Pennsylvania Leg! ire in consequence of the recent decision ef the Supreme Court against the conststutionality of he registry law. He«ays: «I very much regret tbat decision, anpulling an act affecting the purity of the ballot-box. which I regard above ai! price; but sfter 8 most careful examination of the reasons for and against the proposed action, I feel comstrained to decline calling aa extra session. The election laws remain sub- stantially the same as for years past, and in my judgment the facts do uot present such an ©x\raordipary occasion as is contemplated by the constitu'ion.”* Blessings brighten as they take their flight, ‘The Marylanders who allowed intemperate pSrtizanship to stand in the way of returainz their distinguished representative, Reverdy JoBnson, to the United States Senate, are now complimentary dinnering bim to a great ex- tent on bis departure for Europe. Thesame system was extended yesterday from New York to Chicago. This arrangement, which | Bas been devised by Postmaster General Ran- | dal, is intended to facilitate the rapid delivery of mail matter, and will doubtless prove to be & great convenience to the business interests of | the country, and to all who use the United States mails. ‘The health of school children bas attracted the attention of the Massachusetts Board of Education, and their last report contains im- portant statistics asto the exhausting effects of over-exertion of the brain. In one school of 85 pupils, only 54 had refreshing sleep, 59 had heacaches of constant weariness, and only 15 | were perfectly well. The report states that in places where schools are highest in reputation, the | 8bove example is the common experience. << | “Tae Last Hoves oF Lrxcoty.”—This | great bistoric pamting, which has been on exhibition at Galt’s new iron front store, o Pennsylvania ayenue, near {ith street, for a few weeks past, has excited considerable atten- tion im this city, where the teatares of the persons im the group about the bedside of the ing President are so well known.
