ASSAULT ON THE HicuWay.—Abont four ovclock yesterday afternoon, a daring assault znd robbery was committed upon Matthew Collins, # soldier on furlough, i Barracks, while passing near the Smithson’ zrounds, between 11th and Ith streets, by two sselores inén named William Gill and Sonny Gidbe. The guilty pa?ties, Wiasoui any warn- ing to Mr. Collins, pounced upon, knocked him down, and rifled his monnae containing a furlou sum of money. Messrs. J. M. Ashfield and Patrick McCauley, watchmen on the ground, hearing the cries of Collins, gave chase to the Tobbers, and succeeded in capturing Gibson, ‘who, upon being overtaken, threw upon the ground part of a handkerchief, a piece of a sol- dier's furlough, and a tew greenbacks.
