Srcowp Day.—The registration of voters was eontinued in the First Ward yesterday: present Judges Bacon, Clephane, Bowen, Plant, and Rebbirs, aud the Secretaries. 764 persons were Tegistered, of whom 295 were white, and 469 colored. This wakes a total for beth days of 1,704 voters registered, of whom 1,09 are col- cored and 614 white. These figures are largely im excess of those of last year, when the first | two days registry in this ward resulted in re- cording the names of 1,175 voters only, of whom 419 were white and 756 colored Voters presented themselves for registration im quick succession for about one hour yester- day, when there was a falling off, and the Judges of Election had time to replenish their | pipes or relight their segars. Towards5 o'clock | the voters began to come in faster, most of them colored. Mr. Conrad Rosner, white, was rejected, not baying been natvralized, and William Shorter, colored, was -ejected, he not having resided in the city's year About six o'clock 8 young man presented Bimeelf for registration. whe was refused on the ground that he bad been at school near Gettysburg for a year or more, and had only returned to Washington within the past month or two. In connection with this case a Aif- ficulty came near occurring between Mr. Wal- ter Drury, a challenger on the part of the First Democratic Club, and Mr. Slowen, s Menger on the Republicans. Mr. Slowen made some remarks involving the veracity of the aforessid young man, when Mr, Drury in- quired of him (S.) if be was not willing to take his word for what he said. Slowen’s reply not | being very satisfactory, Drury remarked that | he (5) was ne genti:man, and if he would wall the church he would pull his nose for him. Mr.Slowen refused to go out for any such purpose. and the interference of the conductors of registration put a stop at that ume to further difficulty After the tration closed, Mr. Slowen ‘went over to Mr. Clepbane’s table aud made some remarks about persous making themselves officious who had run away from Washington to escape draft during the war, which was construed as personal by Mr. Patrick Hagerty, another Democratic challenger, whereupon that gentleman replitd sharply, when Mr. Slowen, in an undertone, called Mr. Hagerty a puppy. The utterance of this uncomplimentary comparison brought forth an equally severe appellation from Hagerty, who dared Slowen | Of any one Who took up for bim to step outside and use such language. Mr. Slowen also re. fused to accept this invitation, and here the matter ended. Thomas Carter. colored, was rejected. as he could give no intelligible description of the locality of his residence, and had only re- moved to the city since inst new year's day. Patrick Conness, Irishman, attempted to regis- ter at Mr. Bowen's table; but not being able to satisty the Judges that he had his naturaliza- tion papers, he was retused that privilege. Henry Douglass, colored, cam up to register, when Mr. Clepbane inquired how long he had been in this city. | Dougiass.—<1 lives on I, between Ith and 14th, jist on the next street from dis here place: and I's jist arrive to- day from Columbia coun’ de was rejected. ee } Boarp or Scuoot Tavstxgs.—The regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees of Public Schoois was held last evening. Stebbins, and Mrs. Dr. Archibald Hiolmes, secretary, and some twenty- five or thirty gentlemen, among whom were six colored persons. Mrs. Griffing being called to the chair, explained the object of the merting to be to take into consideration the best means of securing to womankind her inherent rights, and toplace her in that sphere which it war designed that she should fill. The present charter had failed giving to woman the rights | of citizenship in the District to which she was entitled, and it was well for those favoring female soffrage to meet and inquire where the wrong Iaid. A great and retreshing change had come over the condition of woman within the past few years, for she was daily becoming better educated, and ber power was being felt, and through the inffuence of mothers the school bey now can tell more than the pulpit or the press dared to do twenty years ago. ‘Woman. she said, should havea vo. «in the legislation of the country, and woman's argu- ment regarding the elective tranchise is the some as the colored man’s; for by the use of it he is made more happy and prosperous, and in woman's hands legislation aud politics would be purer. Prof. Wilcox being called on, read a very long memorial to Congress in behalf of woman suffrage, after which be spoke in advocacy of the doctrine, and in explanation of remarks hitherto made by him which had appeared am- biguoas to some of his hearers. On motion, the memorial was referred to the Executive Com- mittee. Mr. Crane urged those in favor of the movement to meet often and discuss the sub- ject Of female suffrage until it became a fixed fact He thought efforts should be made to bring about frequent discussion with those opposed to Woman suffrage: which, if done, ould promote the advancement of the canse which they espoused. Mrs. Hall, of Kansas, said she wished to get accustomed to the sound of her cwn voice, and thereupon stepped for- ward ard read a poem, covering many pages. bearing on the subject of “woman's woes wherever she goes.” At its conclusion, she snbmitted a series of resolutions, expressive of the loss the Society had sustained from the death of Mr. John Jolliffe. The resolutions were unanimously adopted. Prof. Wilcox of- fered resolutions in favor of equal political rights to all, without regard to race or sex: con- demuatory of any proposition to establish an aristocracy of wealth, under the name of a Property qualication: and protesting against the Proposition to abolish elective government in the District, either whole or in part, as it would perpetually disfranchise 25.000 women.
