As foreshadowed by our dispatches yester- oy, Gov. Englich (Dem.) has been re-elected Governor, by a somewhat reduced majority. ‘The Legislature is Republican, by « largely inereased majority over last year, wh: it stood. Senate—Republicans 11, Dormo- crats 10; House—Republicans, 124; Democrats, ltt—giving the Kepublicans a majority on jeint ballot of 11 United States Senator in place of Mr. Dixon. In Michogan yesterday, upon the vote ratify- ing the Constitution recently framed, the article allowing colored citizens to vote was | veyected. An article in favor of a probibitory | jiquor law Was probably adopted. NATIVE WINES. It bas been the theory of experiencad horti- | culturalets that the hills about Washington were, from the nature of their soil, and their | favorable exposure, particularly well adapted | tor vineyards and the production of native wines. The experiment had, however, never been properly tested until undertaken by Dr. Jobn Lb. Keasbey, of this city, whose « Azadia Vineyard,” on Rock Creek, we noticed last | s:ason. He has experimented on a large scale, aed with much care, and the result has been to demonstrate that a great field is open for the ‘wine-grower im the vicinity of Washington. From the fact that grapes ripen here trom two to fumr weeks sooner than at the West, a market is afforded at the North for our grapes at prices much higher than rule | Inter m the season, when the Western grapes | ~ sent forward in immense quantities. The | wine produced on our hills, from its flavor, }Tomuses also to prove a formidable competitor with the Western wines. Dr. Keasbey recently sent some bottles of his “American Burgun ay” | eark,)to New York, to be tested by experts, and their Teport (without knowledge on their part ot the origin of the wine) was that it was a fine sample of French Burgundy. Samples of Wine and of other varieties trom the “Aza. ia Vineyard,” are now being tested by con- sceurs here, causing no ifttle surprise and interest by their fine quality. We trust that the “Azadia Vineyatg” may prove the pioneer for mary others able bill-sides in this neigaborhood, may ered as fruitfol and profitable as those vicinity ef Cincinnati. TRE REGISTRATION.
