A motion was made to strike out that clause in the constitution. probibiting the sale of liquors. An amendment was made to the effect that liquor “be not sold until the stock of the As- sociation be increased by $1,000;” which was accepted. On motion, the whole matter was iaid on the table, and tne association adjourned. ‘The constitution of this Aesociation pro- vides that the shares in the stock be set at s20— Ro person being allowed to hold more than five shares, and each stockholder is entitled to exe yote and no more. After the u opening ceremonies Major Thomas Hines. George W. Simms, and Free- man F, Shaw were proposed and elected mem- bers of the Union; also, Mr. R. J. Beall, mem- ber of the Third Ward Council. The majority report was offered by Major G. ‘W. Wells, trom the Committee on Resolutions, condemning the removal of General Sickles. Major Wells strongly supported the resolu- tions and urged their adoption. Lieutenant Young thought the resolutions too long, and hoped they would be referred back to the committee. Major Morse disapproved of the language used, and hoped it would be modified. The Chief Magistrate of the country should at least be treated with respect. While he did not dorse any action of the President’ yet he be lieved in a higher tone of attack. Mr. Wilson agreed with Major Morse. The resolutions could not benefit the Union or its members, and those among theirnumber out of employment would, if said sentiments were Adoptea, tind it difficult to get anything to do in any department over which the President bad control. Captain Brook fully endorsed all that was expressed in the resolutions. He believed that he Presideat would lie as soon as eat, and he saw no honesty in any of his transactio: ‘The vestimony of & colored man was entitled to more credence than that ot Andrew Jotnson. Atter further discussion, the resolutions were put to vote, and adopted. Hope was expressed by Capt Slater that the committees in future would act with an unani- mity worthy of the important subjects which would come before them. He wanted a «strong pall, a long pull, and a pall altogether.” Unanimity in committees, Major Wells thought, would not take place until the da: of the millenium; but, so far as he was co! cerned, he boped & new committee on resolu- tions would be appointed. Mr. Wilson did not think the Union was ‘organized to denounce Andrew Jobason nor to endorse General (zrant. bui for the welfare of the soldiers and sailors, and though he was not afraid of President Johnson or his party, he knew the “bread and butter” of many de- pended on keeping aloof from politics. The subject was further discussed by Ca] tains Manning and Slater, and Lieut. Youug and others, after which the meeting adjourned. —— Asotuer Mysreniovus Disarrearance— Aout o’clock this morning. They receive orders from persons at the north, the south. the west, and even from persone at the east; also, from South America and other foreign countries. On the 29th ulti- mo the Messrs, Joyce received an order dated Paris, August 15, 1867, from M. Uonstantine de Bodisco, attache of the Russian Legation at Washington, for two fine no-top buggies, to be boxed and shipped to St. Petersburg, Rus- sia, and have at this time in conrse of construc- tion of different styles, for A. R. Shepherd, Castleman, D, L. Morrison, and others. This fine manutectory is truly 4 credit to ‘Washington, as well as to the Messrs. Joyce. Itis another proof tha: manufactures of all kinds, when directed by proper skill Bad en- terprice, can be naturalized within eur city limits, and our people, by their success and permanent establishment, be rendered in endent of foreign or ontside manufacture: Gur citizens have, therefore, & direct interes in the success ef all such establishments. Why send to another ora foreign city for ar- ticles which can be as readily, as cheaply, and as well manufactured at home? Why send our mechanics to those cities to labor in the construction of those articles? Why not retain and employ them here, and secure for ourselves and our city the prosperity and wealth that their labor elsewhere produces ! Theee are practical and important subjects for the consideration of our people. They should look to it, Our citizens should, by a liberal patronge of such enterprises as the Messrs. Joyce, manifest their interest in their continued success, They, by sustaining them, will: Iq- crease the commercial or business prosperity of our District, and, by building up the com- mercial prosperity of our people, adding largely to the wealth and revenue of our city, will also contribute largely to the increase of their own individual resources, happiness and prosperity SSS DIED.
