Tyng, Ir— Many of the reports published in reference to the case ot Mr. Tyng are calculated to make a talse impression. “The following are the facts of the case vp to the present time: The Rev. Mr. Stubbs, rector of Ubrist Epis- copal Courch, of New Brunswick, New Jer- sey, complained of Mr. Tyng for having vio- jaied articie sixth of the twelfth canon of the spiscopal Church by preaching in St. James* Methodist Church of that place. This com- laimt was made to Bishop Odenheimer, of w Jersey. and by him was Prorented to the ecclesiastical authority of the Diocese of New York. to which Diocese Mr. Tyng belongs. in the absence of Bishop Potter. the complaint Jawfully came before the standing committee of the Diocese, acting for the Bishop during Bis absence. As usual in such cases, the standing com- mittee appointed a subordinate committee to ascertain the facts in the eace. There the mat- ter at present rests. Thus far everything has been done according to the laws of ine chureb to which Mr. Tyng belong: Itis said that ali of the statements with re- gard to the action of the Clerical Association are without foundation. That association has id Ho special meeting, nor has it taken any action at all. or even discussed the matter. The whole subject is in the hands of ths Standing Committee of the Diocese of New York, and in due time their decision will be published. The pudlished reports have seriously re- Mlected on both sides of thia question. The Standing Committee, in whose hands the mat- ter rests, exercise, as it were, paternal control. aad have no desire to criminate Mr. Tyng, bat to give s lawful investigation of the charge which Mr. Stubbs, ot New Brunswick, N. J., bas instituted: and from the nature of the case it fs believed that the Standing Commitee willfully exonerate the Rev. Mr. Tyng from any violation of any canon or ordinance ef the Epiecopal Church.—New Fork Post. TE Cost or 4 Pounvor T: It ie in- atractiye and sometimes profitable, as well as curious, to examine the way in whicn the cost of a commodity is piled up between producer and consumer by freights, handing daties, ex- cbange and the commissions and profits of middlemen. Tea, for example, is sold by the grower in China and Japan at various prices, from about 15 to 30 cents a pound. With freighis added, it is said to cost when laid down in acy of our principal seaports an ay- erage of fifty cents in gold a pound for snpe- rior brands of “chops.” Taking this asa start- wg point, the additional charges before it reaches the table of the consumer are said to accumulateas follows: Original cost of tea, amported, 50 cents; discount on currency to ‘pay for it, 20 cents; duty on gold, 25 cents: dis- count on currency to make up the gold, 15 cis.; contingencies. 10 cents: profit of importer, 13 cents; profit of jobber, 13 cents, profit of retail- er. say Jo cents—total, $1.74. This so shocked the moral sence of the community that a public Meeting was called, aud a procession formed and marched o his residence and took him out. After being marched ont of his dooryard to the tune of the dead march. with lighted candles on each side of him, the procession jormed, music in front, the laiter consisting of cil cans, horns, tm pans, and a large bell, carried om the shoulders of two of the party, Which was tolled continnally, while cries of mirth and jollity tended to enliven the scene. After traversing the principal streets and thor- ovgbiy arousing everybody in town who was not engaged in it, they proceeded to the final act, it now being near the hour of midnight. After forming properly, the procession moved to the graveyard, where the affair was fin- tehed by his kneeling down at the grave and asking pardon of his late wife's spirit; after which the party proceeded to a saloon, and tsking a crink at bis expense he wax permit- tec to rejoin Dis new-made wite—this being the third marriage bond he nas entered into. —_—_—____ HonyETS VOR AUGTST.—Hats are now larger than bonnets; bonnes have steadily grown smaller as the sesson advanced, until they aow ccnsist of nothing more than 8 mere spray of flowers, selected te match the trimming of the dress, and laid on a light foundationet tulle. A young woman living in the lower part of the City named Meyer, who, from ill treatment of her husband had become dis- gusted with life, attempted to make way with herseif in the following very unique manner. ‘She took asix pounder cannon bail which her husband had brought from Vicksburg as a Telic, and which had been iying on the mantel- piece f-r years, and having a rather indistinct Cou ception of the terrible eifecte of the projectile and the mer ane i at lengta bit upon an idea. 1@ went to \ward’s groosey: and purchased fifty cents worth of powder, retarn- ed Dome and procured a breakfast plate, she placed iton tae floor.
