NEKAL SHERIDAN. The tone and temper of yesterday's Intel!i. gencer, epeaking ostensibly for the President ‘With reference to General Sheridan, tells of | the inteneified labors of the Sharkeyites since the President's return, to compass the remova) of that distinguished and most serviceable officer. If by any mischance Uongrees sal) not have embraced @ quorum at noon to-day, | there can be very little doubt that Sheridan’ removal will take place, to be followed as surely as the sun will rise to-morrow by im- peachment legislation early in December next, Regarding these two events as likely to be equally unfortunate for the public interest: our eincere hope is that at noon to-day a | quorum of both Houses will answer to their names, If there be an extra session ai this time we do not believe the Sharkeyites wil; be able to induce the President to remove General Sheridan. sf not, there is no telling what will be undertaken here in behalf of re- troaction between this time and Decembe next. The South, unfortunately, is to be the ultimate and chief sufferer, as in every case where the Sharkeyites have essayed to 1ater- pose the shield of their assumed influence and the President's policy in benalf of allegea rights of tha! section, the existence of which the Jaw making power expressly and signaily ignore. eee ee Sl eB CONGRESS TO-DAY. When the roli was called in the House to- day, 120 members answered to their names. As eighty-tbree constitute a quoram, it will be seen there was a full working organization present, and something to spare. It had been reported that the Democrauc members would net answer to their names, with the idea or defeating a quoram, but if they ever contem- plated such tactics, they probably Abandoned them in view of the fact that enough Repub- lican members were present to constitute a majority of the House. The Democrats con- sequently answered at roll-call, and quite a | number of the leading members of that party ‘were present—Messrs. Fernando Wood, James Brooks, Obarles A.
