Rev. Dr. Foster was chosen moderator, and Rev. Mr: Deckart clerk. A resolution fayorable tothe reunion of the two branches of the Presbyterian Church was offered by Dr. Foster, to which an amendment was offered by Dr. Beird. After considerable discussion this subject was postponed until the first Monday in September, when it is pro- posed to discuss it longer, with a view to final action. A committee was appointed, consist- ing of Messrs. Taylor, Evans and Lathrop, with aeview of ascertaining the practicability of transferring the funds of the Metropolitan Presbyterian Church, commenced on E street, to the Capitol Hill Presbyterian Church, under the pastoral care ot Rev. Dr. Onester—the funds or property amounting to about 330,000. pee following letter was read by the Moder- ator: JUME 17, 1867.—To the Moderator of Presby- tery of Potomac—Dear Brother: 1 regret that an indispensable engagement in the country prevents me trom being present this evening At the meeting of the Presbytery. I hope for the reason indicated my absence will Foon. cused. Permit me to say further tnat 1 have no desire to ask for further action touching the matter that was before the Presbytery at its last meeting. lam very well satisfied with the decision of the Presbytery as it now stands recorded. I beheve Messrs. Campbell, Church and Herron-are all excellent and trustworthy Christian men, and thai if they have erred in the matter referred to, their error proceeded from a lack of prudence. and not froma lack of principle. And this, I think, must be the judgment of all unprejudiced people who know them, and know the case. On reflec- tion, I bope brother Campbell will resign his charge at once, and trust to the kindness of bis people and friends to keep him from want till he can find anether place. Yours, respectfully, P. D. GuRLry. No further action was taken in relation tothe Seventh-street Presbyterian Church, except to appoint Rev. Mr. Van Doren to occupy the Pulpit on next Sabbath morning, and read to the congregation the decision of the Presby- tery rendered ataprevious meeting. The next stated meeting of the Presbytery will be held in the First Presbyterian Caurch, Alexandria, Virginia. eee Wesel A Pxizz Doc Ficut.—On Monday evening jJasta number of the sporting fraternity as- sembled at the restaurant in Virginia, near the southwestern terminus of the Long Bridge, to Witness a dog fight, the match being for $50 a side. Two heavy tax payers passing down the Avenue last evening about 9 o’clock, came in contact with a pile of dirt, amd in endeay- oripg to avoid it tel! into a hole and were half buried in mud, and on withdrawing them- selves found they had increased their weight abont one hundred pounds each. On revisit- ing tbe same im the morning, they founda a streetlamp not tweaty feet from the place, that might bave been lighted. Such man-traps are common to Washington, and it is high time ‘the police, who are required to see that these excavations are properly guarded, should be Teminded to do their duty. A Suvrerer. iments SEES: RxokLEss SHooTinc.—Notwithstanding ths law against discharging fire-aims within the Corporation limits, there are still some persons it seems who, in total disregard of the law and its officers, and with utter recklessness amuse themseives by going on gunning expeditions an thickly built parts of the ciry. On Monday last, some of the urban sportsmen, in the First ‘Ward, while firing at pigeons, it is supposed, ‘discharged a gun containing a load of buck- shot, one of which passed through the seeond- story of the honee No. 73, north ] street, which isthe residence of Col. A. M. Stout, Onief Clerk of the Patent Office. The shot came in at the front window, passed within a tew inches of the head of Mrs. Stout, who was sit- ting Were, and out of the rear window.
