The following is the official showing of the daily circulation of the papers named be- low, made under the call directed by the re- cent act of Congress: EVENING STAR, «7,715 copies Pee day. CONGRESS AND GENERAL SHERIDAN. It may now be certainly said that Congress ‘will not assemble in July, anless the Presi- dent may in the meanwhile either remove General Sheridan or evince such a purpose so unmistakably as that the impression shall #e- come general that itis his intention so to do. As im the face of General Grant’s flat denial that be bas disapproved of General Sheridan's conduct in the discharge of the duties of the Military Govyernorship of Louisiana, wedo not believe that the President contemplates taking any such step, we regard the chance that Congress will sit in July hardly equal to one in a thousand. The truth is, no functionary, civil er mili- tary, has discharged or is discharging his du- ties more to the satisfaction of the American people than General Sheridan. His detrac- tors—with the exception of 4 little squad ot very radical Louisiana speculators, who find it impossible to control his administration of the State’s affairs to their personal advan- tage—are all bitter rebels at heart, whether resident north or seuth of the Potomac. They are those who still struggle to remit the af- fairs of the Southern States into the keeping of the personal and political influences that favor retroaction throughout the South. So far, they have made no headway whatever: and it should be clear to all who will see, that Congress does not design permitting them to undo any portion of its reconstruction work. The removal of General Sheridan, under ex- sting circumstances, could not fail to be but the signal tor immediate supplemental Gon- gressional action, whereby the policy adopted by that efficient and distinguished officer in Louisiana would be placed far beyond the possibility of any interference from any quar- ter whatever. $13,107 9,108 UNION JUDGES RESTORED TO AUTHORITY. In June, 1866, Judges Thomas H. Stribling and W.P. Bacon, strong Union men, were elected judges of the 4th and 11th judicial dis- tricts im Western Texas, by large majorities. ‘The Legislature of the State afterward passed an act, approved October 11, 1866, abolishing the 4th and 11th judicial districts of such ex- tentasto make it impossible to administer justice within them through the courts, the sole object of this act, as publicly stated by its advocates, having been to get rid of the be- fore mentioned Union judges. Gen. Sheridan, an an order dated New Orleans, June 10th, Geclares the said act null and void; restores the numbers and boundaries of these judicial districts as they existed, before the pas- sage of the act; and authorizes Judges Strib- jing and Bacon to resame their judicial duties in the districts to which they were respective- ly elected. GENERAL BONGSTREST ON RECONSTRUC An interesting letter on the political sit- uation Soutn, by General Longstreet, is pub- lished. He saya that appeal was made to the sword, and the sword has decided it. He ac. cepts the military bill as & peace offering, cen- sures, by strong implication, the Democratic party for oppesing reconstruction, believes that colored suffrage should be established in all the States, and expressly declares that Southern men cannot seek alliance with any party which aims to restrict the rights of the colored man. Gen. Longstreet says of Sena- tor Wilson, (whose Missionary efforts have been assailed so fiercely oy the advocates of the do-nothing policy South,) that he was agreeably surprised to meet the fairness and frankness in a politician which he discovered in that gentleman. THE PRESIDENT’s VISIT TO BosTox.—The President will leave this city for Boston on the 2ist instant, to attend the Masonic celebra- tion im that city. He will be escorted by Columbia and Washington Commanderies, Knights Templar. It is thought the two com- manderies will number between eighty and oue hundred members, and will have with them the Marine Band. Pasa eReaT See ae MinieTER FROM GREECE.—A, R. Rangabe, Minister from Greece to this country, Cleon angabe, Secretary of Legation, D. W. Botassi, Cousul at New York, and Z. M. Rodocanaski, Coneul at Boston, arrived in the city this morning, and are at Willdrds.’ They will be St the State Department to-morrow, and will be presented to the President by the Secretary of State on Friday.
