Unsucogss¥UL Seakca AT TARE TREASURY FOr 4 MISSING UNFINISHED $1,000 Bono. —A TUMOF Was circulated this morning that there bad been another robbery at the Treasury De- partment, a bond for $1, having been repor ed to be stolen from the Printing Diytsi der Mr S.M. Clark. From the facts in ¢ it appears there bas been no robbery but of paper upon which a bond was to be printed Was mis-ing last evening, and the employees were detained until seven o'clock to find the same. It ts the rule «f Mr. Ularke to ixsne to the Superiniendent of each room the paper for Printing bonds and notes in packages contain- ing 1,000 sheets each. and each Superinten:jent is held respensible for the return of 1,000 notes or the sheets upon which they were tobe print- ed if the same should be torn or defaced by the machine. Yesterday a bundle containing 1.1) shecis vine ixsned to one of the operators for the purpose of printing registered Certificate. of udebtedness, each for the sum of $1.00. The dnty of (he operator was to print the border only and it woulda be placed in other hand- for completion. Upon counting the bundle Jast evening, 999 sheets only were fourd, and Mr. Clarke immediately directed that no em- ployee of the bureau—about 50 sand 700 females—-should leave the office untt! the Missing sheet should be recovered. The work Was counied over, but nothing of the missing sheet could be found. It was ascertained that some vi-ttors passed through a portion of the bureau during the day, and the employees contended that it was unjust to detain them Sud bold them responsible, when the shet aight have been taken by some person notem- ployed the bureau. Under these cireum- stance-. and the missing sheet being of no commercial value, Mr. Clarke allowed the op- erators to leave without finding it. and search is being made this morning. It is very probe “bie that it may be some where about the ma- cbines or in some of the bandles, having ad- hbered to another sheet.
