Hurly, where an iaguest was beld by Justice Drury, acting coroner There was no evidence of ajscafile near where the body was found, & pocket knite, with the large biade open, was found near by. Meeting oF DeragtmgeNtT CieRKs.—A motice having been published calling a meeting of clerks at Uaion League Hal! last evening, about eighteen of those gentlemen met. The eeting was called to order by Mr. J. M )whing. Who stated that he had published he notice, thinking that it would be proper to adopt resolutions returning thanks to Congress for their recent legisintion in passing the twenty percent. bill. Capt. J.T. Smita was chosen secretary. A Motion was made that a committee of three be sppointed to prepare saitable resolations. Mr. Heysertbonght that a committce should be appointed to get up a serenade, if deemed advisable, and report at a future meeting, when there would be a larger number preent Several gentlemen contended that it was not proper to pass any resolution of thanks. OCon- gresshad only performed a duty, and did not expect tbe clerks to pass any such resolutions “Ihe members of Congress well Knew that the clerks were grateful to them for the act. Mr. Weens thought the meeting too small to express the opinion of 6,000 clerks, and the whole matter bad better be et er until a jarger attendance could be hb: If it was spread thrvoghout the eountry that the clerks ‘Were retornimg thanks, and having great de- onstrations. (he people would form the idea bat a large amourt of money had been appro- priaced. and the clerks had received sometuing ibey were not entitled to. The motion to appoint a committee was post- Pponed until the next meeting. Capt. Smith said an attempt was being made op the part of bourding-heuse Keepers and others to increase their prices twenty per cent. He therefore offered a resolution:—That a committee of five be appointed to ascertain what boarding and lodging-house keepers, provision and clothing dealers have increased their prices since the passage of the twenty per cent. bill by Congress, and also ascertain what Teduction can be secured im fares over the nate and Ohio railroad to clerks desiring o board ont of the city.
