The object of the meeting being to hear the report of the committee on vocal music, on the resolution offered at the last meeting by Mr. Clarke, directing the teacher ef masic to dis- couteee the public concerts enti further no- tice. Mr. Brown, chairman of the committee, made a report favoring the present system of giving the concerts, but recommending some changes xs fo the manner of giving them Mr. Clarke Was opposed to the pablic con- certs, Aud contender that it deprivea the cbildren of imstraction while the music wacher's time was occupied im preparing for the public exbibitions. He thought this time could be more favorably employed in perfect- ing the pupils in the elementary branches of music Avotber reason for objecting was, tnat at diverted the minds of the children from tffeir studies, and seriously interfered with their progress in the regular and more important brauches. Mr Johnson concurred iu the opinions ex- ressed by Mr. Ularke, and stated the teachers or the schools were opposed to the concerts. Mr. Weodward advocated the present sys- tem. I! was an incenuve and made the study agreeable te the ehtidren. Messrs Khees and Murtagh advocated the passage of the resolution offered by Mr. Clarke, and thought the concerts should be dispensed with Mr. Wilson was opposed te the resolntion. He thought the concerts created a desire in the children to study music The vote being taxen on the report of the committee, resulted as follows Yeas—Messrs. Wilson, Brown, Woodward, Cassell and Tustin. Nays—Messrs. Knees, Wailsb, Clarke, Jonnson and Murtagh. The Chair voted in the negative, snd the re- port was rejected.
