Epnraim Wheeler was ap- pointed chairman, and Crosby S. Noyes, secre- tary. A resolution offered by Mr. W.Cammack, resolving that the roi heartily endorse the Project of giving a ball to raise funds for the poor, was adopted, and Mr. T. E. Lioyd stated, in conuection With this matter, that the m: agers of the ball intended to give all the pro- ceeds of the same to the poor. Bir. Graham said tbat a large number of tickets would be printed and put in circulation for sale. it was moved and carried that subscription lists be circulated, so that those who did not favor purchasing ball tickets for the relief of the poor could have an opportunity of contri- buting directly to that object. On motion, the secretary was also appointed treasurer, and authorized to received contribu- tions. The following-named gentlemen, who were present, subscribed as follows: R. H hing $25 ; George U. Henning. $25: E. Greg $25; B_Onovreh, $25; Lewis Waples, #25. Mr. Camm ck stated that between one and two buncred persons applied daily at Justice Bos well's office for relief. A motion that a committee be appointed to investigate cases of destitution, and to select two ladies from each church in the ward to Aseist them, was carried. and the following- named persons were appointed to constitute the committee : Messrs. C. B. Church. ©. 5. Noyes, R. H. Graham, Dr. Croggan, T. i. Walker, and G. C. Henning. Wall, Shepherd, Kidwell, Snow. and Hall were appointed a committee to represent the interests of the Board before Congréss da- ring the ensuing year. Mr. Sweeny introduced to the Board Mr. a. G. Haley, who read to the meeting a bill de- signed to be presented to Congress, relating to the subject of titles to real estate in this Dis. trict, which was referred to the committee ap pointed to represent the interests of the Board an Oongress, and Messrs. Elvans and Norman Were added to this committee. The Board then adjourned. POLICE APrOINTMENTS.—The Board of Po- lice met yesterday in their rooms at Police headquarters, oppesite the City Hall. Henry Martain, Addiso: Hamsiey, colored, and Thomas Morrow, white, for pase- ing counterfeit fractional currency. The dis- covery was made by one of the accused going to the gas office to purchase coke and offering ® package of the “queer” in payment. It was traced to TRos. Merrow, who Keeps shop on Louisiana auenue, opposite the Central Guard- house, as the owmer. The case was laid before Justice Thompson, who issued s warrant to search Morrow's — for more of thesame sort, and & package of between nine and ten doljars just from the mill was found ina cigar box. The notes are all for twenty-five cents, and being rougbly execnted are easily detected by persons accustomed to use the genuine. Justice Thompson dismissed the colored pris- ouers and held Morrow to bail for court. seein ecaatoees Tue Farm Buiupive.—To-day, the business ep and residents of the vicinity of Seventh Street and Pennsylvania avenue are in fine ©pirits: a number of employees of the Quar- termaster's Department having commenced ‘work m tear! down the building erected at tbat point for purpose of holding the fair for the benefit of the orphans of soldiers and sailors, which took place last summer. Since the fair closed this building has been the cause ofcompiaint from our citizens generally, but Congress baving adopted a resolution author- izing it to remain until after the 4th of March next, the corporation were powerless in the premises.
