The meeting was called to erder by J. As chairman of the executive which be desired the association to vot the Republican Association. The reso! 3 were read by Mr. B., and set forth that a bill having beeu reported im the House of Repre- sentailves appropriating $25,000 for the relief of the poor of the District, said sum should be expendea for the colored people, because a greater portion of the appropriation of last year was Le many for white people. Mr. J. H. Crane said hé did not understand how this meeting could express the opinion of the Republican Association. Dr. Boyd thought it made no difference, and moved the resolutions be adopted; which mo- Gon prevailed. Mr. A. Boswell was then chosen tempo- rary ¢hairman of the meeting, who said the object of the meeting was to carry out the late act of Congress giving the elective franchise to the colored man. Every person, black or white, unless he had voluntarily entered the ontederate service, was entitled to the elec- tive iranchise. It was the daty of this associ- ation, where they should learn the fact that a person attempting to vote had been engaged tn the rebellion, to do all in their power to pre- vent such yote being given, whether it be for Of Against the Republican party. The black man should go to tbe polls next June. and cast Dis ballot of bisown tree accord, and be in- tmidated by no man, but vote for the right man for the right place. The Republican As- sociation the speaker now belonged to was not the one of 1560 or 1563; they had proven false, but the Republican Association of to-day was the true one. Dr. Boyd was chosen temporary secretary. Meesrs H. Crans, Henry M. Knight, Chas. H. Newman, Hewry O. Johnson, and Reuben A.
