ES Tar James CREEK UANAL—Discorery of Rel- tee of the Aborigines —The Canal in the low grounds east of the Arsenal and extending trom the Eastern Branch to Pstreetsouth was completed last week, and at this time there is from 3 to I2 feetof water in it. This work was planned by Mr_W. D. Wise, and he being sec- onded by Col. Benton and Gen Rameey the work was put through rapidly, the object be- ing to abate the nuisance in the shape of an extensive marsh lying between the Arsenal and Buzzard Point, and to reclaim the groand Residents in the we escaped usual sick- bess origimating from the marsh last season. ‘The Canal was made by first driving piles, Tanging from ten to forty feet in length, and then excavating with mud machines and filling in behind the piles. in this manner much ground, which weold, otherwise, remained useless, bas been made ready for occupancy by buildings, workshops, &c. During the progress of the work quitea num- ber of Indiin relics, such as pestie:, with which corn was beaten, axes, spear and arrow beads were taken up by the mud machine. They were mostly taken from one spect within an area of 30 feet, aud it is believed they were once used by the Anacostia tribe of indians, ‘who inhabited ibis region, and who formerly bad 4 fishing station about that point. palamedes fs. VULCANIZED RUBBER—Have Dentists the Right to Use It*—Last night, before Chief Justice Cartier, in chambers, the case of Henry B. Goodyear, Adner, &c., and Samuel A. Dun- can, against Thomas D. Hills, a dentist of this city, was argned. The complainants in this case bave filed a bill praying ar injunction, to enjoin the defendant from using vulcanized rubber for making artificial gums and plates for teetn. Suits have been instituted against dentists throughout the country for the same purpose. The plaintiff contends that the vul- canized rubber for dental purposes is superier to gold. Where the gold would cost from twenty to thirty dollars and the wapkmanship on the same from eight to ten dollars, the rab ber would cost but thirty or forty cents and the workmanship five dollars The argument will be continued this evening—Messrs. A. Pollak and J. J. Coombs for complainant; Wm. F. Mattingly and Joseph H.
