Tse New House or Secretary McUrr- *—The fine residence of Secretary Mc- loch. on the north side of H street, between ivth street and Connecticut avenue, is now re- ceiving its finishing touches, and it i: so nearly completed that the Secre: ary and family are enabled to occupy it. Itis a com- Modious three-story and ba: ement brick house, the front of which is mastic, imitating stone, and with the fine circular top twin windows, of which there are eight in front, it Presents a fine appearance, and isa great improvement to the neighborhood. There is also a fine iron failing in front. On the main floor, after Pass. ing through a heayy walnut doorway, « hall is reached, from which, through rosewood doors on the right, the parlor, 1S by 38 feet, is reached. At the end of the hall is the dining- room. 18 by 27 feet across the house, as also two large pantries. On the Opposite side of the ball is the office and library. These rooms are id feet in beight. About midway of the ball a fine stairway rises, occupying the space between the office and library, to the chambers above, each being 17 by (8 feet, and finished Tauch ‘he same as theapartments below. There are six chambers on each floor—each opening into the spacious hail, besides having doors connecting them—as also bath rooms, furnished ‘with the most approved apparatus. In the basement there isa large kitchen, with fine Tenge, besides servants rooms, storage for tuel, furnace, (the whole house being heated by hot Sir.) wine cellar, where the bottles are kept in sand, (to keep the wine at a uniform temper- ature.) This building is one of the best ar- Tanged in Washington for a private family ‘The building was planned by Mr. B. Oertly, of the Supervising Architect's Office, Treasary Department, who superintended its erection. Messrs. Martin & Foos were the brickiayers J. G@. Myers, carpenter: Jonn Domine, of Bal- timore, plasterer; C. G. Ball, furnace and rapge; Shepherd & Bro., gas fixtures ard plumbing: Wm. M. Eliis & Bro, iron railiog. ‘The painting was done by days’ work —_o——_ BRONZED STATUETTE OF MR. Lincoty.—A sketch for @ statue of Mr. Lincoin is now to be seen at Hudson Tayior’s Bookstore, modeled by Mr. Fish Mills, of this city, the artist of the beautiful bronze statue over the tomb of Lieut. G. R. Meigs in the Uak Hill Cemetery at Georgetown. The face is characteristic of Mr. Lincoln in some of his thoughtfubmoods: the bands are crossed behind the back in unas- suming attitude, the head inclining forward and somewhat downward, an attitude, as above remarked, peculiar to Mr. Lincoln when in meditative mood. It was the attitude in which he stood before Bis fire on the iéth day of Feb- ruary, i>64, when Mr. Mi Is entered nis room for the purpose of procuring 4 cast of his liv- ing features. lt wagthe first time the artist bad ever urbe pv oe ior vssion made was as = trayed ip this statuette. ries The artist designs as a pedestal for the statue, of which thisis a miniature, the Union bandle or Roman fasces bound together by a band four inches wide i which beams 4 star for every State, and this to setupon a square block two feet thick. This model is desigued for completion, we believe, for the order for the Washington Lincoln Statue, of which Mr. Parke, for Philadelphia, has a model on exhi- bition at Philp & Solomo: on exhibition at beautifully modeled female Higure represesting a (.uadroon Slave. er Tue MoveMENT OF CLERKS FOR INCREASE ov Pay.—Last evening, tbe committees waich bad been appointed by the Bureaus of the ya- rious Executive Departments of the Govern- inept, to Sppoint delegates to represent to the and to Congress the ne- being accor & bigher im, met at Union League cted as secretary. Tuveiall Welch, and George Bartle; Post O: fice Department, Joseph H. Blackford, Lou Watkins, and Jonathan A ; Interior Department, Frank Geise, M. E. N. Howell, and J. M. Blanchard: Agricultural Bureau E. M. Whitaker. J. R. Dodge, and Wm. Duane Wilson. The meeting then adjourned. After some discussion as to whether the del- egates should be instructed to demand a speci- fic increase of compensation, or whether they should exercise their own discretion in the amount of increase asked, it was resolved that the latter course should be pursued, and the meeting adjourned. —_e——_.
