A WIFE POISONS RERSELF ON ACCOUNT OF CAUSELESS JEALOUSY. [From the Chicago Times, Sept. 17.) A young woman, named Elien E. Moore, the write of John Moore, a citizen and mechanic of Chicago, Frashly ended her life by a suicidal act at a late houron Saturday night. The deed ‘was pot discovered until yesterday morning, when the husband, returning to his home, tound tis wife’s inanimate form lying cold in death upon her bed. The couple resided at No. 209 Soutn Ulark street, in neatly and com- fortadly furpished apartments, which they had engaged only a few days since. It seems Mrs. Moore was not of a Pappy. temperament, as she had, before her union with Moore, been eivoreed from a former husband. This per- son's name was Shelcoth. now a police and formerly a turnkey atthe Bridewell. He as a very respectable man,and enjoys the es- teem of his fellow-citizens. About four years ago the divorced wife married Moore. She came to Chicago thirteen years om Obio, and it appears has always been regarded as an honest and virtuous woman, her charac. ter only being sullied by the horrid vice o dronkenness, which it seems she has of late years contracted. On Saturdy night abont ten o'clock. while in a partial state of intoxication, Elien Moore left ber room and visited thedrag store of Messrs. Leavenworth & Oo, on the corner of Adams and Clark streets. Her object ‘wee to procure Jaudanum. Two outices were sold tober. After procuring the drug she re- turned to her room. The fatal project engrossed her mind, and she spoke not a word to any one. Her deadiy purpose was not suspected, and in her small apartment, unknown to any living soul, the rash woman termmated her earthly career. She drained the phial to the dregs, and ‘with that last fatal draught end-d her con. sciousness. The husband was not at home that might, he bad oven there, but had left the premises when he witnessed his wife's drunk- enness. The cause of the suicide is ascribed to unfoanded jealousy. Some idle gossip had informed the young wife that her husband was acquainted with certain women, and that his iptercourse with them was illicit. This, how. ever, is said by the neighbors to be entire} ialee, and that bis wife had no proper grounds for such suspicions. Mrs. Moore was a woman of very prepossessing appearance. Her features ‘were perfectly regular, and herexpression was intelligent and agreenbie. Her eyes were large, of & fustrous, beautiful black, shaded with Jong silken eyelashes. Her hair was the prin. cips! feature of her beauty. It was very dark, silken and glossy, and, when unconfined, feli in loxuriant tresses over her shoulders. “ONE oF THE Boys.”—A youngster came home after baving a glorious time in the pud- dies, his face all aglow. and bis rubber boots full of water.
