Many distinguished persons were pres- | ent, among them Lieutenant General Grant | and family. As the performance last night | was the first im this cozy theater, it may be | proper before noticing it to mention that the tortable seats, and the arrangements fer tho- | rough ventilation, aud for facilitating egress | from the auditorium on three sides, were warmly praised, warranting the expectation | thar Wall's Opera House is soon to be a popu- | fixed at lar institution. The opera “Crispino” was rendered in good | style by the Ghioni and Sasini Company, the greatest drawback being the too audible voice light and sparkling, and abounds in brilliant and pleasing vocal passages to delight the ear, while the eye is equally gratified with fine comic touches, which were presented with spirit last evening. The two most telling passages are a duet by Crispino (Susini) and Annetta, (Oanissa,) at the end of the first act, when Annetta threatens Crispino with re- prieals, but persuaded by the solid contents of the money-bag. gives unrestrained vent to her delight, accompanying one of the liveliest of tunes (“AB si, si marito mio”) with one of the prettiest and most piquant of dances; and an inimitable comic trio by Crispino, and the Dictors Mirabolano, (Coletti) and Fabrizio, (Marra) im the third act. This trio brougnt down the house. To-night, “Ernani” is announced with a fine cast, including Madame Ghioni in her great role of Elvira, Signor Irfre, Susini. and Marra. The Philadel phia [ngnirer of to-day says : The trite saying that trath ts stranger than fiction, is again verified by the détails of the arrest of Goutleib Williems, At?ig o'clock yesterday morning, John J. McNair eat in his shoemaker shop, No. 961 N. Thirteenth street. He had finished the morn- ing paper, being particularly interested in the description of the alleged murderer of Mrs, Miller, when Jooking into the street he noticed acrippled man hobbling by. He said to his wite, “I believe that is the man.” She told him to puton his 200ts and follow after him. He obeyed her advice, and followed the stran- ger to the S. E. corner of Thirteenthand Coates streets. The man was walking with the aid of a stout hickory cane, which he held in his ngbt hand, his lett side, both arm and leg, being jpably paralyzed. Blood spots were also plainly to be seen upon his coatand pantaloons. Satisfied in his own mind as to his perfect correspona- ehce with the suspected man, Mr. McNair called to b tostop, which he at once did. Mr. McN: asked, “Did you not live at Tenth and Buttonwood streets!’ He re- sponted “Yes, 1 was raised there.” To the inquiry, “ls your ‘name Walliams?” he an- swered, “Yes.” «als not this your birthday ?” “Yes.” Having thus fully satisfied himself that the speaker was the suspected assassin, answer- ing completely to the minute description pab- lished, Mr. McNair said, “Then you are just the man I want,” and led him in the direction of the Fourteenth Ward Police Station, at 13th and ee. Garden streets. Williams inquired, “What do you want?” He was answered, “You will find out when you get down there, at the station.” The prisoner made no further protest against being thus arrested, but even asked his com- panion to help him along, as he was tired, whereupon McNair assisted him by taking his paralyzed arm. Walliams talked freely, several times repeating his query of the reason of his arrest, and sho’ no evidence of being startied or frightened by the seizare. As they thus passed along the street a gradually in- creasing crowd followed them.
