These were replaced, however, after the rain had ceased, and those visitors who remained en- joyed themselves to a late hour. (esterday the Indies tried their skill in what is termed “eagle shooting.” The modus operan- 4 is to take a wooden eagle, which is suspend- ed between two Te. aad jetting it loose it swings towards the target, into which, if the Sim is true, the metallic beak is stack. (Quite * large number of ladies competed for the prizes, which consist of a shawl, balmoral skirt and work box. The contest for the ten pin prizes was jnite animated throughout the day, and some very fine bowling was displayed, spare balls being quite common. Yesterday, the first Prize, an ice pitcher, was won by Mr. G. Har- Ue, the Shutzen King for this year. Mr. Wilde took the secend prize, and G. der, the third. The smaller pole was occupied during the afternoon nearly continuously by boys, essay- ing to get to the top tor one of the prizes, sus- pended on the frame work, consisting of al- bums, suspenders, books, and handkerchiefs. So expert were the contestants that the frame work was almost entirely divested of prizes. The larger pole,on which is a watch for the ze, still defies the climbers, none having as yet reached the top. The “Carousel” was well | patronized, and many youthful and fair | maidens enjoyed « ride on & wooden horse. Just before the rain came up, Harry Leslie, the rope walker, walked the rope backwards and forwards, stopping in the centre, and per- lormung some gymnastic feats, which affrighted the timi but drew forth applause from the greater mumber present. Finally he placed bis feetin peach »askets, and walked across and back again. This afternoon he appears on (be rope as the drunken washer-woman. Besides the amusements noticed before, there will be this atternoon a great “mush-eating | match,” the parties to be blindfolded and fur- nished with spoons, wita which each man is to Wed bis vis-a-vis. This affords considerable tood tor mirth. During the afternoon the Postmaster Gen- ral, Mr. Randall, with Assistants McOlelland and Zevely, accompanied by Dr. McDonald, Col Ulmstead, and several clerks, visited the Pock by invitation, and after being conducted tbrough the grounds, they, with Mr. Ktoman, and meee ae of the association, partook of an excellent dinner, at which they expressed themselves highly pleased. Thewe were also pl during tbe afternoon, Major General -mory. Gen. Terry. of Mich., John Wilson, Esq., Third Auditor, T. E. Lioyd, Councilmen Wright, ‘Dudley, and other mem. bers of the councils of this city. To-day is the Inst of th hooting, and the sbooting-masters will make up their report to- morrow. The ladies contest at “eagle-shoot- ing,” interrupted by the rain yesterday, will also be continued this afternoon. » 7 at DisoRpERLY IN a Stueet Gat.—Tuesday night Robert Locker was arrested by Lieut Johnson and Officer Westfield, of the 24 Pre- cinet for disorderly co: ict ig & street car, v ben he resisted, and a pumber of his com rades coming to his assistance the officers were obliged to use their batons. . however got Rim into the station w! was locked up and subsequently fined §' 5, By Walter, the officers not preferring charge of resisting them. —.— A HUMANE AcT.—Last during tne rein, & gentleman residing thetiret toll go'e on 7th street, found a little child, named Lydia Cain walking out the road and took her 'o the 2d Preesmet Station, and delivered her to Officer Westfield who restored her te her par- ents, —> Repvervion oF Force.—Oa Taeeday 32 hands in the jowers deparument, apd yesterday, .25 isborers in the ordnance department at the Navy Yard were discharged.
