( ‘THE SCHEUTZEN-FEST.—Immense Crowle Jrescut Yesterday— Visit of the President.—Yes- t-rday. the Park grounas, where theScheutzen {suv ai Is im progress, were visited by an tm- mense number of persons, and up toa very ive hour at night crowcs wended their way taither. Itis¢scimated that during the afier- neon and evening, 85 Many &s six thousand persons Were present. The grounds are ervered with dancing saloons, confectionery and other stands; a handsome stand for the prizes: stands for the revolving horses, &c-, afl bondsomely set off with flags, evergreens, chinese lanterns, amd colored lights, while through the woods various illuminated deco- rations are seen. The whole Park is fall of life and bustle, and at night looks like a fairy scene, or & —— such as is described in the Arabian Knights, Among other novelties, there fe the greased pele, about 40 feet high, ‘with a watch on top, as a prize for the climber who can reach it. ae me is still there, as Do ome yesterday ascended more than half way up the pole, but much amusement was afforded by ‘he efforts of the baffled contestants. Another feature is the “Oarousel,” where a nomber of hobby horses are arranged in a cirele, and whirled around rapidly by ‘jag powert"’—two contrabands being employed to turn the crank. The box swing is well pa- tronized, and tem pins, quoits, &c., are included in the listof amusements. The feats of Leslie on the rope “draw” immensely. The shooting office, however, feature, and yesterday from the ti procession entered the grounds the marks- men were engaged until dark in ‘ing their skill. Yesterday the shooting was for the best single shots, gold medals being the prizes. To-day the shooting for the king medal is in progress Ss About 4 o'clock last evening while those as- sembled were witnessing the feats of Leslie, the boemting of a gun—two cannon being sta- tioned in tae Park—and the strains of the band of the Sth cavalry playmg “The con- quering hero.” announced that a distinguisn- ed party had arrived, and shortly President Johnson, with his private seeretary, Col. W. G. Moore, and Hon. John Hogan of Mo., ap- peared. The crowd sent up cneer after cheer, and there was @ gredt rush to see the President, numbers crowding around to take him by thehand. The party were received at the gate by, Lieut, Col. Von Koerber and Mr, Springman, and ly-afterwards May. Blumesterg of the Baltimore ‘Association, Capt. Kloman, Jusuce ‘Walter, Mr, Henze, Mrv Cook and Chief Marshal Stosch appeared and formed.in front of ‘the’ President, while the party was followed by Lient.. Jehuson and ten of his men. ~ The visitors were escorted Over the grounds. and spent a few moments in witnessing Leslie's teats on the rope. After witnessing the shc ug, and compli- menting the skill of some of the markswen, the President was escorted to the banqoet hall, where the members of the Sehutzen were drawn vp im line. Louis’ Schade, Bsq.,in a few re. marks, welcomed him te the grounds, and in- troduced him to the gsseciations. He briefiy replied, expressing his gratification at wit- nessing many Germans and their friends enjoying tbemseélvesso pleasantly. After each member had beén thtroduced and shook hands with the President, be retired, being accom- panied. by the associations $5 the gate, and | greeted by them with hearty applause as ha ceparted.
