"THE EVENING STAR. LOCAL NEWS. Tue District VoLruNtTE@rs—Endorsement @f the President and the Philadelphia Conven- ivom —Last evening & cial meeting of the Aseociation of District Volunteers was held at German Halli, Col. James A. Tait in the chair and Dr. W. J. Oragin acting secretary. Engineer Mockabee stated that it was pro- Posed that the association should take a stand 4am regard to the questions which now agitate the country Lieut. 1D) F. Stiles offered a series ot resoin- tions endorsing the President and the Phila- delpbia Convention, and proposing to attend the mass meeting ai the City Hall to-night. The Charr (Col. Tait) stated that the associa- tion was fermed tor the purpose of #iding their iellow-soldiers and for keeping up the social relations Which existed during the war. They Dad, however, seen a similar association pass. ing resolutions insulting the President and all loyal citizens of the District, in which threats were included, and their action zoes out as the action of the soldiers and sailors of the Dis- trict. The time had come for action, and the association should show that the soldiers and Sailors of the District were as they were before the war, in favor of the Administration. Be- fore the war there was @ mere handin! of the Republicans here, but wheu Mr. Lincoln was elected, the soldiers of the District swore he should be inaugarated, and they should be just as determined now. Peace has been declared, and peace we must have, or the country is ruined. If there were any present of the radi- cal faction, he would say to them, “Take your ceurse,” but 1 mnst support the President and my country, and will support the Constita- nion.
