Camp MEZETINGS.—Laytonsville Camp —This camp meeting of the Methodist denomination Was commenced on Friday last near Lay vo: yille, Montgomery County, adout 26 miles from Wasbington. There are about 2 or 25 tents ‘pon the ground, some of them quite larze. mostly occupied by people from Abont 30 Wasbin las are also on t sroand, MeKendree Chapel being well repre- sented. The openi gore was preached on Friday pce 3 by ¥. John Riggles, of this city, -from Matthew, 7th chapter and 26th verse. On Saturday morning Rey. J. H. Swope preached trom John, 4th ¢ eT, 24th verse: im the uf- ternoon Rey. H. H. Kennedy from Hebrews, 4th chapter and 9th verse; and at night, Rev. Mr. Walsh, ist Corinthians, 2d chapter, i-th verse. Yesterday the Per was crowded with large bumbers from this city and vicinity and the more distant portions of the county, the num- ber on the ground being estimated at 2,50. Several showers passed over the camp during the day and there was some discomfort. tn the different tents services were held daring the morning and hing took place from the stand, Rey. Dr. Hamilton, of Ryland Chapel, of this city, preaching a yi effective sermon from Jobu, 3d chapt:r and 1ith verse. Hanover Switch Camp.—This camp of the Episcopal or Southern Methouists, is held in fine grove near Hanover Switch. on the Balti- more Railrosa, and is composed of over tifty ents from Winans Chapel, Central, Trinity, North Baltimore, and several otber circuits and stations. The opening sermon was preached by Rev. Mr. Watts, on Friday night, and on Saturday Revs. Messrs. Thomas, Davis and Couch preached. Yesterday there was a large number of persons present, including mauy from Balumore and this city, and along the line of the railroad, by <}e:ial train. Services were held in the severui station tents during the morning, and at 11 o'clock Rev. Dr. Bond, of Baltimore preached from St. Jobn, i7th c rap. ter and “2d verse, one of his best sermons. H. Evans, of the 7th Ward, arrested George Rollins upon a ch: of robting a sailor, named Fiank MeMurray on the highway. Sheban, up 3d street, hear Marylandave- nue, and the prisoner enticed him trom thence to the bank of the Canal, where the prisoner gave a whistle and instantly several others came up. Dove, secretary of the Board of Health, has received the returns of ail but a few of the un- dertakers of the number of interments made in the month of July, and from the figures below it will be seen that notwithstanding the op- sively warm weather during the month of uly the city was comparatively healthy, and thus tar this month the city continues just as healthy, without any signs of the dreaded ep- idemic, “cholera.” The number of deaths re- ported for July is 125, of which 11 were from sunstroke and 25 from cholera infantum. Of the total 57 were under ten years of age. Kzrrinc Bawpy Hovsgs.—Saturday after- moon, Lieut. Tait arrested Fanny Mitchell, upon a charge of keeping a bawdy-house on G, between i2th and 13th streets. Detective Bigley wen to Fanny’s to get a trunk for a girl who had formerly lived there; Fanny grew rather indignant, and set the detective at defiance. The result was that the girl who ‘wanted to get her trunk. made the c! of keeping 8 bawdy-house, and the detective had Fanny arrested: and she being unable to give ‘bail, was sent to jai for court by Justice Mor- sell. Lieut. Tait also arrested Amelia Ward, colored, for keeping a bawdy-house in the Second Ward. was held to bail for court by the same justice.
