Lloyd, Edmonston, and Secretary S. V_ Noyes. In the absence of the President, T. E.jLloyd, en motion of Mr. A. Lioyd, Barr was called to the cha: The Chair laid before the Board a communi- cation from the Mayor, stating his approval of acts to grade and gravel N street north, from New Jer-ey avenue to North Capitol street; dor the reef of Jeremiah Grady; authorizing @n alley to be opened in square 357; and to Imsintain and increase the efficiency of the ublic schools for the school yeer commencing September 1. 1866, and for other purposes; also, Joint resolution authorizing a continued abate- iment in the payment of water taxes. The Chair laid before the Board a communi- cation from the Mayor, transmitting a protest from Messrs. Corcoran and Riggs, against the extension of the sewer now being constructed On | street Also, a communication from the Uity Sur- Veyor, transmitting an estimate of the cost of Paving? hb, izth, and 14th s‘reets west, from the canal to the stone paving on said streets. He states that 7th street has already been paved, and that to pave [2th and 14th streets will cost $750: referred to committee on improvements. Fox, asking to purchase or lease a lot on C street, between 13 and 6th streets, known as the “water lot;” re- ferred te police committee. The clerk who at- tends to this business being ill, one who is not accustomed to the work took his piace, and. in his confusion did not take notice of the special direction for sending the draft, but turned to the book and found the name of the Cepository to which the drafts were heretofore sent, & forwarded the draft for $35.0), accord:ngly .The money was received by the Paymaster, and explanations follewed, when it turned out that the requisition had never bern drawn upon the Treasury by the Pay- master, but it was a forgery, perpetrated by Wm. You will read this order to your command, and instruct them to govern themselves accordingly. A. C. Ricnarps, Msjor and Superintendent. atatin CHARGES OF ROBBING THE GOVERNMENT.— Yesterday, officer Garrett, of the Seven:h Ward. arrested Wm. H Prince upon acharge of stealing certain furniture, &c., the property of the Government, from the ‘ks, on Capitol Hill. The case was laid before Justice Handy, who holds it for further hearing. George Thomas was arrested by officer Barker, of the Seventh Ward, on the complaint of Robt. F. Magee, who charged the prisoner with the larceny of three jackscrews, the Property of the Government, from the U.S. Navy Yard. The screws are valued at $200, and the accused was held to bail for court in $500 by Justice Handy. ——e Ne is Ratt ror Covnt—Last Sunday night, Frank Stewart and John Stewart, after having pent the day in buggy riding and drinking, wound up their exercises by a series of pro- miscuous assaults On various parties, kneck- ing down two men and a woman in their course near the northern boundary. Com- pisint was made to Lieut. Johnson, of the sec- ond precinct, who directed officers Baily and Mulicy to arrest them, which was prompt done. Justice Walter held Frank Stewart bail for court for assanlt and battery on Dan’! Jones and Martha Johnson.
