Dr. Samson and the trustees of said college. Mr Rhees stated that a contrad'ction of the statement made of the s hb of Dr. Samson at the Southern Baptist Convention had been published, and be read several extracts from religious papers to show that Dr. Samson was im sympatby with the South Mr. Johnéon defended the course of Dr.Sam- SOn, stating that his speech in the Baptist Con- vention bad not been reported correctly. It had been the policy of Dr. Samson not to meddle with politics, and when Senator Sumner was sek at his house, and party spirit ran high, he Wes advised to get rid of him, but refused to ask him to leave, 5 M>.
