Adjourned. ——- FEL Case. — Cirerir Yesterday, after our lainte® having closed his Mr. Bradley. jr. commenced to argue the case for the plaintiff, contending that the de- fendant had pomoned the reputation of the plaintiff, deprives bim of his employment, and bad made bin a person to be booted at. In considering this case they should look back on the yeur “G4, when there was a secret inquisi- torial tribunal in operation—not formed forthe purpose of aiding the Government, but to gratify political affections. He coatended that the members of this self-censtituted inquisi- torial committee were actuated by love of porty and not by love of country. He referred to the fact that the plaintiff had tailed to pro- cure the original letter, and expressed his con- viction that the defendant had something to do with tbat fatlure—fearing that it would be used by the jury. After speaking of the wrengs suffered by the plaintiff by reason of the pnb- lication of the hbel, he said that the first qnes- tion asked by the defense was, “Where is the letter?” after they had put in tne plea of not guilty, and when the opinion of the court Adverse to the motion of the plaintiff is being read they seemed satisfied. But then a fact leaks ov!—the defendant bimself acknowledg- ing that he had written the letter, and being informed of the presence of Mr. Dana’s affi- davit, they went on with the case. He argued that the publication had been proved by Gen Rucker, Col. Moore, and others. The charges Were made by the defendant not as a public officer, but as & private citizen, and one was that he preferred “Little Mac” tor President. Did that simple fact prove disloyaity? He himself bad the highest respect for General MecCielian, and knew many true and loyal men who s<2os him. They charged that this was a malicious libel, and that it was for the defendant to show justification if he could. The detendant had not, in his opinion, and had promised, in his letter to Col. Rutherford, if the case case came to trial, to band the charges. it was for the jury to say if he had or had not. In conclusion, he claimed that the plaintif was entitled to damages. <tonraeetemeee Tue DistRict in CoxGRress.—in the Senate yesterday Mr. Morrill presented petitions from citizens of Washington and Georgetown asking the abrogation of the corporate charters of the two cities.
