He has just made a report to the Adjutant General at Washington, in which he gives the following result of the examina- tion: * He (Mr. Davis) is considerably emaciated, the fatty tissue having almost disappeared, leay- ing bis skin much shriveled. is muscles are small, flaccid, and wv soft, and he has but little muscular strength. He is quite weak and debilitated. Consequently his gait is be- coming uneven ard irregular. Thomas, yesterday, when the case of the Commonwealth vs. Roe. a white man, charged with felony, was being tried, W. Willoughby, Common wealth’s Attorney, asked that he might be permitted to introduce negro witnesses to testify in the case, claiming the right to do so under the provisions of the «Civil Rights Bill.” The Judge declinea per- mission, on the ground that this was a State Court, and that he was acting under the laws ot the State, which forbade that a negro should testify in a case against a white man, except “when the case arises out of an injury done, attempted, or threatened, to the person, prop- erty or rights of a colored person, or Indian, or when the offens« was committed by a white prrson im conjunction with a colored person or Indien.” The Judge stated his determination to execute the laws of his State until ordered to do other wise.— Alezandria Gazette, 24th Sincciar Deatu OF a Cu1Lp.—An inquest was held at East Newark, N. J.. Wednesday morning, by coroner Hanley, on the body of a little son uf Jacob Dachart, who came to his deatb i most singular manner. Mrs. D. was absent abont tifteen minutes, and upon return- ing she found her Jittle son Henry, two years of age, suspended by the neek with a window sbade cord, which was hanging on the door knob, and life was extinct.
