SINGULAR Case or HANGING.—A singular ease of death from hanging occurred near Mahanoy city. Pa., recently. An infant,a few months old, was sleeping with its parents in bed. Awakening some time in the night, the mother missed her child, Raising herself to seareb for the babe, she discovered it hanging outside of the bed suspended by the néck by the string of its night clip caught on one of the pegs of the bed rail. ife was extinct. It seems thatthe child was accidentally sliding out of bed, and, as it passed over the bed- rail, its clothing caught on one of the pegs by which the bed-cord is attached, and thus sns- pended, it could give no cry by which the parents might have been awakened. The bill passed by the House of Representa. tives yesterday to éstabtish in this District an institution for the instractien, employment, and reformation of juvenile Offenders, provides that there shajl be established, in the District of Columbia, on the tract of land known as the Government farm, an institution for the in- struction, employment, and reformation of ja- venile offenders, to be called the Reform School for s. Thatthe government of said insti- tution shall be vested m a board of seven trns- tees, to be appointed and commissioned by the President of the United States, one of whom shall be nominated for Sppointment by the Mayor of Washington, one by the Mayor of Georgetown, and four by the Secretary of the Interior; and no trustee shall receive compen- sation for his services, but each trustee shall be allewed the Amount ot expenses necessarily incurred in the discharge of the duties of his office. The term of office of the said trustees shall be three years; but, on the first appoint- ment of the board of trustees, two ot members shail be appointed for one 3 , two for two years, and three for three years, That the said board of trustees shall be a cor- poration, by the name of the Trustees of the Reform School for the District of Columbia, for the purpose of taking ana holding, ia trast, whatever property may be conveyed, devised, donated. or bequeathed, for the benet.t of said institution, with all the power necessary to carry this purpose into effect. RECOVERY OF STOLE» Goops—4 Pawnbroker i Trouble.—Last Wednesday, Mr. S. H. Hable, who keeps @ furnishing store, No. 310 Penn. sylvania avenue, applied at the detective office for aid in recovering a large quantity of goods stelen from him during several months past, and also to secure the arrest of the parties sus- pected. Detectives Kelly and Higley were Sssigned {o the duty, and very soon recovered 240 pairs of boots and shoes. They arrested Robert Cryer, Robert Tasco, and Jas. Whetier, cojored, on suspicion of the larceny, and Ber- nard Bornstine, a licensed {pawn roker, for receiving the stolen goods. Yesterday after- noon the accused had a hearing before Super- intendent Richards; Mr. Utermeble appearing for the prosecution, and Mesers. Bradley, it. and Fendall for the defense. Mr. Hable testified that he had been missing goods from his store during three or four months past, the aggregate of which was S500 to $2,000 Had seen colored men coming about his back shop and store. Hus brother, Isaac Hable, a isd ot 16 ‘was employed as a clerk; he slept in the store and kept the key, and used to have two or three colored men about the store in the mornings to help him open and sweep out. A few evenings ago 8 certain person came to witness and told bim he had some boots believed to be witness’, and thought he knew where there were more of the same sort.
