On Thureday the opening speech was made on. the part of the commonwealth by Charles N. Mann, Esq. A large number of witnesses were examined. but nothing new elicited. The evidence agamst the prisoner. however, is overwhelming. The callous conductof Probst in nughing while one of the witnesses was on. the stand is said to have sent a thrill of horror throughout the court room. The Ledger says On Thursday moraing, before the court was fonnally opened, little Willie Dearing, ue sele survivor of the family, came in with his gcand- father, and in going across the court room he Was obliged to pass nnmediately in front of t prisoner. Probst looked at bim, and his eyes followed the lad until he reaehed his seat, but there was no perceptible change im bis coun- tenance. Willie gave one quick glance at Probst as be passed, and then wenton. The exhibition of the rious instraments used in the murder, the clothes of the prisoner stained wit b blood, articles of dress worn o° the various members of the family, including the little baby’s apron. did not appear to have the least effect upon the pearing ef the pri-oner. Before the spectators were allowed to leave the court-room at the adjournmenton Wednes- dayevening srrangements were made to re- move the prisoner from it. The fact that he Was coming out was soon known on the street, and a scene of great excitement ensued. Sixth street was crowded with people. The police- men, after considerable difficulty, opened a Way, and Probst wasremoved. When hemade his pearance on Chesnut street he was greeted with groans The yan was dnven off rapidly, the crowd following for some distance. The noise of she crowd outside was plunaly heard within, and to those who could bear but not see, it seemed as though the court-room was besieged by an infuriated mob. The Salt Lake Union Vidette on the 4th inst., gives the details of the recent murder mrthat city of Mr. Brassfield, a quiet and peaceable citizen, who has made himself obnoxious to the Mormons by marrying a Iady claimed as the wite in polygamy of one of their number.
