Adjourned. —__$4—— A Serious Accipent.—Last night, at seven o'clock, Mr. John W. Berkely, former propri- etor of a dyeing and scouring establishment on Pennsylvania avenue, near 9th street, was knocked down and run over by 4 street car on the Metropolitan track at the corner of 9th and F streets. It appeared that Mr. B. was on the flag footway in F street, and in trying to avoid ahack that was approaching sprang forward, and came in collision with the car, was knocked down, and a wheel passed over his right arm, erusbing the bones at the wrist, and nearly severing the hand. The body of the car prob- ably struck his head, as his skull was found to be injured. Dr. Keasby was t for, and the wounded man carried to the Model House, but upon the arrivalot Dr. Keasby it was found necessary to remove him to Providence Hos- pital. But for the activity of one of the em- loyees of the road, in stopping the car, Mr. tTkeley’s head would have been crushed, as it was almost under the wheel. pumas ee DistressinG ACCIDENT —Yesterday after- noon, at 4 o’olock. a little lad about 9 years old, named Richard McLain, in jumping on the tront platform of street car No. S of the Metro- politan railroad lise, as it was passing on In- diapa avenue, between Secoud and Third streets, missed his footing. He fell to the ground and the car passed over his right leg, breaking one of the bones and tearing nearly all of the flesh off from his hip to his ankle. He Was removed to the residence of his father, Mr. Richard T. McLain, clerk of post offices and post roads in the Interior Department, where Dr. Norris, of the regular, and Dr. Baxter, of the volunteer army, were called in for consul- tation. They concluded that the wound would prove fatal. Gibeon is probably bis name. —_e——_ BROTHERHOOD OF THE Union.—Last week, @ new eircle of the order, known as Washing- ton Circle, No. 3, was organized in the building corner of 7th streetand Louisiana avenue, at which there were forty-five persons present, twenty of whom were initiated on the night of opening.
