Mr. Peugh introduced a joint resolution re- pealing the act of September 22, 1862, requiring allapplicants for licenses to take the oath of allegiance, Mr. Peugh in introducing the res- olution said that the necessity for the oath had ceased—the rebellion was over, and the canse for that act had passedaway. It retarded bus- iness, and he was in favor of doing away with everything that interfered with business. Mr. Wright hoped the bill would not pass, as it put the worst kind of rebels on an equality with our loyal citizens. Every one employed under government were compelled to take the oath, and he saw no impropriety in those ap- plying for licenses taking it. kt Mr. Peugh’s request the bill was referred to the committee of ways and means.
