All the boxes of supplies that came were Gelivered, except whea the parties t> whom they were addressed had died, when the boxes were turned over to the hospital. The accuced compla‘néc of the quality of the rice and cornmeal, saying that those who cent it should te court-martialed. Never heard of Capt. The furloughs were for 8 days. Never knew ofa furlough Seg elven for 30 days; as there ‘was no authority for doing so. Prisoners were allowed to go to gather blackberries for the horpital, but never got many. Captain Wirz bad plans for damming up the creek in the stockade into three ponds, so as to furnish sep- arate for drinking water, washing, and sinks, but could not get the tools. Cross-examined by Judge Advocate.—Dr. White had given witness to understand that the vaccine matter was se ped and declined to veccinate him with it. itness never knew of but one man who survived vaccination when the vaccine matter took. Giit buttons sold for five dollars apiece in Confederate Money. Molasses was tiken into the steckade ed the barrel, and flour in great quantities. itne.s caw 809 pounds of flour taken in by traders in one day. There were about 500 of the 35,000 prisoners who were raiders, and who robbed every man that come into the stockade. The sergeants on duty at Capt. Wirz’s office stole supplies from the boxes in the store-house. The treatmeri at Eelle Isle when witness was there was worse than that at Anderaonyille. Witnercs had seen sergeant Duncan detiiled in the hospital, steal whisky and other articles from the sanitary supplies, beat prisoners of War, and put some in the stocks over night. Duncan and Ritchie, another also detailed at the hospital, acted as deteciives for Captain Wirz, and reported the tunnelling operations. Witness had seen Dr. Mudd in the hospital when assisting in surgical operations, play with the arieries before they were taken up, and spiri blood in the operator's face. Had seen Dr. strike men in the face with his pisto) for talking to the guard. Oarr bad also stolen from the inmates of the hospital. Mr. Laker said this was the last witness the defense had present. There were others in the city, but if the Government was ready to close he would not ask any furiher time. Only about one-third of those subpernaed had reached the city, but the defense would close now if permitted to introduce to-morrow the evidence of Mr. Eotly, shoukd he arrive, and the prose- cution shall not have closed at that time. The Judge Advocate stated that the prosecn- tion would close to-morfuw, and suggested that the derense keep their case open till that time; which was agreed to by the counsel.
