In conclusion he placed in the hands of Mr. S. a very handsome and valuable gold watch. Mr. Semmes responded with evident feeling, and in doing so said that he had determined prior to the formation of the club to have nothing mcre to do with drafts, but when elected treasurer had felt it his duty to accept in view of the fact that the people of the Sey- enth Ward had never refused him anything he bad asked at their bands. He begged the committee to convey to the mem- bers of the club his sincere thanks for this me- Mento, and to say to them that he should cher- ish it as a jewel to be preserved by himself and family for all time to come.
